October 26, 2017 at 6:59 pm in reply to: Thunderbolt 3 to FW800?

I thought so, just had to ask someone that has tried it!

Follow up question then. What is the absolute lowest cost solution to access files on a thunderbolt 3 only DAS such as the Areca 8050T3-8 (formatted for mac)? Remember this is only in case of emergency, so speed is not an issue. Just plain old access to the files.

    Cheap mac-mini with thunderbolt?
    PC with thunderbolt?
Other way that my mind won’t go to?

    Thank you!

Bob thank you, I appreciate the response. My question is a bit more specific in this case. Can I actually connect these adapters directly onto the Areca, in order to read it directly attached to my Mac Pro 2008, in case my laptop breaks down ?

November 7, 2016 at 11:16 pm in reply to: What do people do for audio mixing ?

Robbie hi from sunny Athens! I’ll be happy to answer any questions you have regarding my post. Recently some things have changed since FCP X 10.3 was released, but if you want to prep your project for audio mixing in another software, then follow what I wrote up to the part where you should assign roles. From their on if you’re going to logic Pro X you can just export an XML straight off of Final Cut, and if you going to ProTools use that XML with an app called X2 pro. Usually no mixing is required inside Final Cut since sound engineers want the whole project as close to the original sound as possible .

  • There are two things you can try before buying weird hdmi to dvi cables (do those even exist?)

    1. In system preferences > display settings > arrangement tab you can set your “main” display by dragging the white bar in the blue squares representing your monitor. First try making your non-hdmi monitor as the main one. Inside fcpx disable a/v output. Try showing events on your hdmi display.

    2. If the above doesn’t work try in system preferences to set your hdmi display as your main display. Drag the main fcp window to your non hdmi screen. Try showing events on your hdmi display.

October 18, 2014 at 4:40 pm in reply to: Files lost durring relinking in FCPX

It happened yet again on 10.1.3 and 10.9.5 Mavericks. Complained to Apple numerous times, but we can’t seem to track it down. Happens more with complex projects and media stored over Ethernet. But has happened to me on internal HDD storage as well. I’m afraid to relink and have become strict about camera archives!
