That’s what we’ve done, doesn’t work. I’m not at Promiflash until Wednesday, perhaps the other editor isn’t following my instructions correctly, but I doubt that.

You’re probably going to have to replace your clips manually. FCP X works offline using Apple Pro Res Proxy, this is what you should have received. The mpgs are not a compatible editing format, even in FCP7 you would need to convert them. it is possible to link files in with the same name and duration in FCP7, you do not have this option in FCPX. So when you ingest those mpgs FCP X optimizes them, creating full-quality Apple Pro Res files from that. When you try to reconnect to the original files, FCPX doesn’t understand them, since there is no Metadata linking to a Project. X sees your mpgs as the source.
Did you create a new Event with the original ProRes files? Then you can change the referenced event of the Project. This is done by going to the Project list view and changing the referenced event in the information window. If this does not work you will have to replace your clips manually.

Hey Dennis,
We’re having the same problem at Promiflash in Berlin using the BM mini Monitor. From one day to the next FCPX only output NTSC SD. We have it routed to several monitors (we Pimped our Edit Suite) on the TVs the image shows up in HD quality, but our main viewer monitor looks like crap now. When we change it back in the BM software FCPX recognizes the HD setting but stops outputting. Pro Tools also stopped. Image snippets pop up once in a while when recording, but otherwise it’s black.
I won’t be able to get to it until Wednesday. I’ll let you know if we figure it out.

I agree, Bill, its best to use the the software. However I do think its helpful for newbies to look inside the folder structure simply to get an understanding of what X is doing.
I got used to hiding my projects manually before the Event Manager software came out. I’ve never had a problem moving, hiding or duplicating Projects.

As long es you stick to the folder structure FCPX has you won’t have a problem. Personally I move my Events and Projects manually, however you can do all of this in FCPX, once you duplicate a Project a window opens giving you several options, so you can copy your events and projects to another HD.
If your are working with the internal HD, open the movie folder and you will see a Final Cut Events and Final Cut Projects folder, inside those folders you find your Event Folder and your Project Folder.
When using an external drive the Final Cut Events and and Final Cut Projects folder should be at the root level of that drive. When you connect the HD FCPX will recognize it. When you create or copy and event or project to that drive, if its still empty, FCPx will create those folders for you.
If you do it manually all you need is to create the two folders in your new drive, then drag them from your internal folders to the external ones. You can connect the HD to any Mac running FCPX. If you use 3rd party plugins you need to make sure the other macs have them installed as well.
And very important: if you’ve imported the footage as reference files (not checking import into final cut events folder) then you need to copy those files to the new HD, or simply connect your footage drive to the new mac.

I was involved in a discussion last night about this on the FCPx or Not Forum.
You need to actually ctrl+click on each keyframe to do this.
If you only use the inspector to set keyframes you should get a linear animation by default. If you set your keyframes in the timeline or in the viewer it should give you curves.
The problem I’m having in the viewer currently is that for some reason when I have two exact same keyframes and ctrl+click them it keeps on showing me the menu for the first one, even though I can grab the curve handles for each keyframe without a problem. In my buggy case if I want to change the second one I need to move it, change the curve, and change the parameters back, Charlie’s way also works for this. I’ve never had this problem in Motion.

Hey Nick, that’s how its supposed to work, I know. In my case, I just seem to be having this bug where even though I’m on the third keyframe, playhead and orange, it keeps on changing the parameter for the second one. My workaround for this is moving the keyframe in the viewer, Charlie’s workaround works as well.
The keyframing is indeed very powerful, I rally like it. It’s a lot better than FCP 7 clunky intertace, and that goes for Avid as well. FCPX is intuitive and easy to use, and I get better results faster.
