Not a wise buy right now …
incompatibility issues with HDMI port a major factor ….. although they are working on it. abd for a device of this nature it built kinda weird. No mounting options ….. NONE, Zip , no screw holes on the unit ,no optional mounting bracket nothing…not even a magic unicorn to hold it while u shoot. Kinda weird. seems it was not well thought out.
If you need something like that now you are better off getting a ninja or Sound devices pix or AJA ki pro mini or nanoflash.

right now this will mean ill either have to bu a new machine or buy a PCIe extender, which i don’t like at this present time, space constraints …..

I think people are just panicing way too much…..I had hoped apple would unify the apps and make it into a super beast much akin to smoke ….
AN App that FCP/Color/STP would have been a monster in 64bit and core video or whatever the heck they are using for realtime and of course motion would be the tie in for motion GFX..but alas FCPX happened… but who knows with all the plugings it may turn out just how i expected. so im willing to wait and see
my current suite works fine no need to go spend more money

doesn’t seem practical to me. spend another grand when i already have an output device ? well guess ill just wait and see what BMD does….
Just like with FCPX, ill wait till the end of the year and make a decision when things settle down. Cuz im sure BMD will have to make more of their cards compatible as well…

I’ve been hearing PC guys say this for years ….. It’s too expensive, no this no that blah blah
it’s not expensive by any means. If you went with equivalent spec Dell or HP it’s be the same or even less. And if you want a high powered BOXX it’ll be Lea that half the price….High End, Production & Post Production

I doubt the platform is dead at all.
I do think however it will change form. USB 3 is NOT an industry standard whether you would like to think so or not. FW800 has been for years and still is …… SATA is now standard internally in ALL mac pros.
Because of the performance and possibilities of Thunderbolt why should they even bother to put in USB 3 ……i think the form factor will change ….. dvd drives just may disappear and PCIe stuff will be outboard which is exactly what thunderbolt is.
