DVD’s require MPEG2 video and AC3 audio. Render your video to MainConcept MPEG2 with any of the DVD Architect … templates that match your location and videos aspect (NTSC or PAL and 4:3 or 16:9 Widescreen). Then render your audio as Dolby Digital AC3 with the Stereo DVD template. These are the files that you should use when authoring your DVD with DVD Architect.

I can confirm that Vegas 9 and Vegas 10 pro have no problems importing MXF files. I would suggest that Avid is the problem here. Unfortunately I am not familiar with Avid, so I cannot suggest where he may be going wrong.

If your laptop has an expresscard, you can get a firewire express card for it.

Is there any reason why you are rendering to AVI? If your target is DVD, you should be using one of the MainConcept DVD Architect Templates. Given the duration on the timeline, you will also need to use 2 pass variable bit rate rendering or split your project into 2 to fit onto 2 DVD’s.

I have experienced this issue with DVD’s and Blu-ray discs created using DVDA. They play fine in players, but not the computer DVD/blu-ray drive.

I have not had this problem when I have used Nero to burn my discs.

I now have a player connected to my preview monitor (a 32″ HD TV) as well to check my output.

This is a cooling policy issue of Windows. I had this problem with an Acer laptop recently. The fix is simple, but it will mean that your laptop will consume more power:

Instructions

1 Go to your computer “Start” menu. Click on “Control Panel.”

2 Click “Power Options.”

3 Click on “Change Plan Settings.” You can find this option adjacent to the words “Power Saver.”

4 Go to “Change Advanced Power Settings.” Click the addition symbol adjacent to “Processor Power Management.” Then click on the addition symbol adjacent to the “System Cooling Policy” option.

5 Modify your system cooling policy from the “Passive” to the “Active” option. Press “Enter.”

I do have footage of a multi-cam ice skating shoot in which I used 4 cameras: an FX1, Z1P, HC3 (all HDV Sony cameras) and a Canon HDD AVCHD camera.

They are taken from different angles around the ice rink, and 2 of the 4 cameras were unmanned. White balance was manual. Is that what you were after?

If so, I can upload short clips to MediaFire or post you the m2t files on a DVD.

Please advise.

The sound could be feedback from your in-built Mac Book microphone which is enabled and possibly turned right up volume control-wise.

I am not sure if the ‘haywire’ issues are related to running Vegas in a Windows virtual machine on a Mac.

The external drive issue could be a limitation of the virtual machine environment.

I use LG as well. Just make sure you get one that burns BD-R and BD-RE. It also burns DVD+R and DVD-RE and DVD-DL, plus your standard CD-R.

It did have some BD-RE disc recognition issues, but I sorted that by reformatting the disc in my burner.
