I get the operator/owner to join this forum to respond. The camera is a recent acquisition. The workaround we have been using is to drop the clips on the time line and then render straight out to DV WS AVI. The output for the client is in SD.

I use a Canon Pixma IP4600 for my clients. It uses a caddy mechanism to load and print ink jet printable discs.

I use to use labels but the glue tended to dry and the labels sometimes lifted. Plus, if you are not careful in applying them, an off-centre application can cause the disc to shatter especially on CD-R media that spins at 50X speeds.

I find printed discs just look more professional.

I defaulted the settings as you suggested to me a while back and that process set it to none. I also then checked this on a laptop which had a new install of Vegas which I had never used for editing. It was set to none. Perhaps it is a default setting for the PAL DVD template and not NTSC.

You might want to check your Deinterlace method in the project properties. This one had me stumped for a long time. Out of the box, Vegas sets it to NONE. Try setting it to blend field if you are working in PAL.

    Taken from the online help:

Choose a setting from this drop-down list to determine the method used to render effects and deinterlace the two fields that make up a frame.

    None
    Performs no deinterlacing.

    Blend fields
Uses contents from both fields and works well for high-detail, low-motion video.

    Interpolate
Uses a single field at a time and works well for high-motion, low-detail video.

Note: No deinterlacing occurs in the Draft and Preview video preview modes. The Good and Best modes apply the selected deinterlacing method.

You need to select all the video tracks. It does not do it for you.

What you need to do is put all your clips on different tracks i.e. one for each camera. Sync them up and then just go to Edit and Select all. After that go to tools, go to the multicam window and hit create multicam timeline. Then enable multicam editing. Your takes will appear as diiferent windows.

You can also ctrl-click to select particular video tracks instead of select all.

Personally, I prefer to use Vasst UltimateS.

Here’s an excellent tutorial on chroma-keying and the use of thresholds and masking to get a much better effect:

That did the trick. It was set to NONE. I have been living with this problem for several years which I suspect started when I unleashed an Avid video editor loose on my system and he changed my settings. Not knowing exactly what he did, my only workaround was to render to the HDV template, resulting in DVDA rerendering everytime I wanted to make a DVD. My workflow just got 50% shorter!

    I have one final question:

I notice the field order is set to upper field first in the HDV project properties, but in the Render as…DVDA template it is LOWER field first. I do recall this ‘expert’ changing that setting in the Project settings. Should they match?

This is the main reason I use the UltimateS plugin from Vasst which supports ‘quadcam’. I do wedding reception shoots where the light can change dramatically and you don’t have the opportunity to white balance on the fly. UlimateS keeps the video and audio tracks separate for individual manipulation.

It realise this doesn’t help you in your particular situation, but it is something to consider in future.
