Steve I hope you are right on both counts. I took a gamble going to 10 instead of staying on 9.0c, but I wanted to take advantage of the stabilise plug-in plus CUDA rendering. There are definite improvements and the product has not crashed on me once, whereas 9.0c would hiccup now and again.

Nope. The project was started in SVP 10. I only got as far as 9.0c before moving straight to 10. This is my first such issue. I have about 100 hours of other unfinished edits on SVP10 which so far appear to be unaffected, but I have to go through them carefully looking for segments that are out of place. If they go the same way, I am in deep trouble as they are Vasst mutli-cam quadcam edits.

Click anywhere on the ‘position’ line on the bottom of the pan and crop window as though you were adding a keyframe. Your pan/crop grid with handles should reappear.

You might also want to try 2 pass VBR rendering under the custom settings of the render template, and use a bit-rate calculator to determine the best low, average and high settings. I am assuming your video is over 60 minutes long.

Although your drives are replaceable under warranty, there is that inconvenience of replacing lost data and lost time. I had some issues with Western Digital drives and went through 3, although I later discovered the first fault was genuine. The other 2 faults were due to a dying drive controller.
The short life span indicates there could be a problem with the drive caddy, the power supply, or the way the drives are being handled. Do you use an external drive caddy that you simply slot the drives into? If so, you still need to be careful of static electricity when handling the drives, especially if you work in a carpeted environment. Do you work in an environment where there is a lot of vibration, such as living near railway lines. External strong vibrations can shorten the lifespan of any electrical equipment.
Lastly, is your computer running on clean power i.e. through a UPS or a surge protector? Power spikes and brown outs can damage electronic equipment, such as eSATA caddies!

Internal or external, you might want to explore 24/7 ‘surveillience’ HDD’s offered by Western Digital and Seagate, which are designed for constantly recording video applications such as CCTV systems. They are ruggedised meaning they will handle vibration/movement better than standard drives. They do cost slightly more, but I presume offer more reliability as they are designed for constant use. I use 4 such drives in a RAID 1 and RAID 0 configuration, with a 5th eSATA drive for backup purposes.
I used to use WD Raptors which were nice and fast, but they only lasted me 3 years, are expensive, and run VERY hot, so need active cooling i.e. a fan.

I have been looking at the Samsung HDTV’s as well. I am generally happy with the BenQ monitor that has my time line, and I have calibrated the monitors closely, but 24″ as an external is just not big enough in a quad screen for spotting those times when the camera operators manual focussing is off a touch.
I could always use the 46″ from the den and watch WW III break out with the kids when they find it missing!

You might want to check if your antivirus software is running/interferring with the wave form generation process. I routinely drop 8 hours of 1440 x 1080/50i footage (anywhere from 100MB to 13GB files) onto the timeline in Vegas 10, no problem, and get a cup of coffee. A big one. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to build the wave forms.
Are you pulling your files from a USB 2.0 drive or from the C: drive by any chance? The former is slow in terms of speed it can read at to build the audio wave form, and the latter is not recommended as you are competing with Windows system operations.
Lastly, what type of clips are you attempting to import? NXCAM on SVP 9 was extremely slow to import, but it is a breeze on SVP 10.

Another option is to use the Content Management Software that comes with the EX3 and create an MXF wrapper, which literally takes seconds. In my case, I just wanted the files in 1 stream, not 10’s of small files. Vegas 9/10 loves MXF files and they are a breeze to edit when compared to AVCHD, even when using the Ultimate S multi-cam plugin.
