Sorry to be late to the party….I can’t offer a solution, but just wanted to say there’s nothing unusual about still working with FCS2.(I managed to edit 25 Broadcast TV programs on it last year) Many people prefer to give any new upgrade a bit of time to settle, to be sure any bugs are sorted before they commit and the jury seemed to be out for a while with Snow Leopard and FCS3. Two colleagues who have upgraded have had no issues at all but that wasn’t everyone’s experience.
Although I could upgrade, I do a lot of work for my church and they run a G5 Mac that can’t use FCS3, so I’ve stayed with FCS2 for easy project exchange.
I was an infrequent user of Motion last year, but never had it hang like that. Advice on the Cow seems to be make sure any re-install is clean though – get EVERYTHING off before putting anything back on. Not fun(!) but the pain will be worth it if Motion returns properly.

CVP in the west midlands, Jigsaw in the south for starters. I’ve had good deals and (more relevantly) good advice from both. Or I’ll happily go shopping for you and invoice…..

December 27, 2009 at 11:03 pm in reply to: WD My Book for Mac & FCP

Bearing in mind I’m currently editing only DVcam or HDV – I sometimes use a Macbookpro with 2 firewire 800 Hard drives daisy-chained. I have a firewire express card to connect the deck when required but if your Mac is a recent one and doesn’t have the express slot you can daisy-chain the deck/camera as well while you digitize.
There’s a difference between what will work if that’s all you’ve got and what we’d recommend as best practice. (If you see a WD drive in my suite, it’s just a personal one, I’m sure I never used it to edit with….)

  • Excellent idea – if you post too basic a question for this forum, you’re not gonna mind it getting moved if the help still comes.
(if your ego IS too big to cope with that, probably you should be infront of the camera rather than in post-production….)

Put the audio in the timeline where you want it, then click the padlock symbol on the left of the track(s). Audio now won’t be affected and you can amuse yourself with the video

October 9, 2009 at 10:08 am in reply to: How do I make a “Pal” DVD?

Sorry – I should have specified – I can watch US dvds because I have a multi-region dvd player. If your client has a Europe only dvd player (and they are fairly common especially at the budget end) you must ensure the europe code box is checked in DVDSP4 or it won’t play.
