You can select all camera clips and just turn off un-needed audio in the inspector. There’s no need to detach. And why make compound clips?

I took the file apart and stripped it down to the 3 shadowed layers and merged them. It still comes in flat. May be something to do with your version of PS.

I am running current OSX and FCPX and CS6 on my system. When I make a file it imports as layers.

This is why I have long ago given up on trying to use layered PS files in FCPX. I have often run into problems especially when FCPX gets updated.

What I do is use PSD as my working file and then export either JPG for full screen stuff or PNG for things with transparency. Never had a problem using this method and it saves me time in the long run.

I tried it again with FX and everything worked as expected. I know that’s not much help but that’s what I’m seeing.

I just tried it and it came in as layers.

    @ Oliver

Not using the replace function. Using compound clips. Update the parent and all children follow.

I think Michael’s point is most valid and the example that Oliver used can be done in FCP X as well (to get back to the original issue).

I prefer FCP X. I feel that I can edit faster with it. I also have edited in Premier Pro and finished 2/3 of a project in the time it took another editor to do 1/3 of the project. Big deal! Tools are tools. I can swing a hammer but I doubt I could approach the ability of even an apprentice carpenter.

The anti-FCP X debate is tiresome.

  • I think the up and down keys are still looking at the next and previous edit commands as well as your added zoom commands.

  • I’m just heading out but I’ll give it a shot when I get back.

  • Michael – I cannot replicate this on my system. I have zoom mapped to the slash and asterisk keys on my numeric keypad and it works as it’s supposed to.

Open a copy in Motion and publish the transform parameters. Save As and put it in its own folder. Works fine.
