It’s AVCHD so there’s my answer. I should have done more research obviously but I had a hard time finding the answer I guess. The files are MPEG2, again, I’m not a techie but I know that is at least the type of file I was using for this “session”, I also had some of the files saved as mt2s (whatever that means). For my output resolution I had it set for 720 x 480 so I thought that’d be fine at least for doing it in SD.
Thanks for the info on the processor speed, I should have came here first! I ultimately want to do HD editing, but for now at least I can just do SD I guess until I get a better machine. Now I’ll just have to figure out how to do it in SD.

Thanks John, I sent an email to tech support last night (being Sunday they weren’t open, and work has been crazy so I’m not sure I’ll get anybody tonight). I got an automated response saying their “initial” answer is that because I’m running Vista 64 they don’t support it (although the answer at least seemed like they might look into the error message). After I got 9.0b loaded up I got a different message, I think it was a “write” error vs. “access” for what it’s worth.
Question…do you think my processor is enough? It’s a Duo Core and they say it’s rated at 1.83 GHz, but I understood that to just be one of the processors speed (so combining them should be much more than that), the guy I bought it from said that it should be able to handle software (all other things being equal) that requires 2.8 GHz to run it.

Sorry for the double post here, but for what it’s worth I wanted to update my situation. I uninstalled Vegas, re-installed it and then downloaded Platinum 9.0b, and after killing most of my processes ran it again. This time at least I could navigate/edit within the tracks but still had a bunch of events/files that were red. Could having so many files used on the track affect the performance? There are files smaller than the ones in red that work fine, and they all came from the same source (a Sony HDR SR11 handycam)

I also initially had this question and went ahead with the install and didn’t have problems getting it installed (I have plenty of other issues but I’m attributing that to being new to video editing and maybe too light of a machine)
