I have done some recent compostitng over my HDR-FX1 HDV footage. I had no pixelation issues. I used the text generator in FCP and Motion. You may see pixelation due to FCP’s Real Time (RT Extreme) playback feature, which will degrade unrendered video or layers ( text in your case ) to maintain a real time playback. The quality of real time unrendered playback automatically varries based on your systems specs.

Hi There. I have had to convert my 19:9 HDV footage to 4:3 regularly. I create a new sequence in the project. Select the new sequence. Type “command+0” and click on Load sequence. Select a 4:3 format of your choice and cut and paste the desired content into the new sequence. This works if you want or don’t moind a letterbox. I have had good reults with this technique.
