Save yourself a lot of time and effort. Buy a Black Magic Design Intensity Pro capture card for less than 200 bucks. Capture the video directly from the canon via HDMI into the mac via the Intensity and have the Intensity endode the video to Pro Res flavor of your choice. It will be a realtime capture but alot of times realtime capture is faster than copying large files and re-encoding them. Good Luck.

You will not find any speed variance between the SB10 and the camera USB. You should expect to spend about 15-20 minutes per 16GB card. If you have some money you can get one of these https://www.nextodi.com/en/product/NVS2500_en.html and back it up in 3 minutes. Of course for the same 2000 you could always get a Macbook Pro and back up via the express card slot as well as use the computer for other stuff.

I thought the same thing about the HD-SDI at first but then realized that was a listing of the original EX1 specs (see recording mode etc and the top of the table). I hope they include HD-SDI on the EX1R.

I could only wish it would be the ability to write editied footage with file sizes larger than 4 GB back onto a SXS card.

BTW..The EX1 has a 4GB single file size limit. In HDV mode (SP if you will) You can only record about 17 minute in 4 gigs.

He just mentioned ways to ingest HDSDI into a laptop. Both these products do that. Apparently I missed the whole H264 web casting part of this conversation.

What about the AJA IOHD or MOTU V4HD FireWire Video Interface. They can be had for 2600.

I wonder if DVCPRO HD’s 100Mb/s bitrate is a limiting factror for use with the SDHC cards. I know that there are many that can handle a reported 20MB/s (160Mb/s) but that is the top speed of the card and cards generally do not sustain their top speed.

I got to hold this camera and get a demo of it at the world premier during the Final Cut Pro Super meet in San Francisco. They were able to pull the SD card from the camera plug it into a reader and edit multiple clips with dissolves / effects and real time playback directly from the card in final cut pro. The camera seems pretty sweet. It is only 3 pounds and very balanced. The 3 chip ccd beats the A1U’s single cmos as well. They are looking for an April release for under 4 grand. Besides the various 35Mb/s XDCAM EX formats the camera will also record in both 1080i HDV 60 (25Mb/s) and 720p HDV (19Mb/s). AVCHD better look out, XDCAM EX is alive and well and so is HDV !!
