October 18, 2009 at 5:53 pmYeah, I agree. No big deal when you already have the -3.

October 18, 2009 at 6:03 pmSome of the “big” things are:
Cache Record up to 15 seconds
HDMI out
Standard Def recording
One push Auto Iris
One push for S&Q change
New View Finder
Camera holding
Switch improvements
Firmware upgrade by users.
_____
Big for me would be cache recording and HDMI out. If cache recording could be implemented in a firmware upgrade I’d accept that. HDMI out allows for lower cost monitoring in some cases. The rest are nice but maybe not mission critical. -

October 18, 2009 at 7:24 pmSomeone said they dropped the HD_SDI for HDMI. If they got rid of HD-SDI…MAJOR bummer. By hooking this cam up to a Nanoflash or AJA Ki Pro suddenly you are sending an uncompressed 4:2:2 signal to either device. This instead of a compressed 4:2:0 to an SXS card or whatever. This makes the cameras signal output something to rival cameras that cost many times more!

October 18, 2009 at 7:33 pmI also wonder if they made it to not accept the SDHC card setup.

October 18, 2009 at 8:01 pmI would rather continue with SDI as HDMI doesn’t support timecode.
Good Luck

HD-SDI out is still in the specs

The same firmware allows the use of Sony’s hard drive recorder so I think that would be hard and pointless to implement a block.

October 18, 2009 at 9:48 pmAny word on when the EX1R will be released. I just ordered the EX1 a week ago so I am trying to figure out what to do. Keep it? or exchange it?

October 19, 2009 at 1:28 amI thought the same thing about the HD-SDI at first but then realized that was a listing of the original EX1 specs (see recording mode etc and the top of the table). I hope they include HD-SDI on the EX1R.
I wish I was good at one thing rather than average at many, but oh well.

October 19, 2009 at 2:45 amScroll down the “Expandore” page and you will see the full specs.
States that there is a BNC for SDI out.
I think this camera comes with a bunch of new things.
What is interesting is to see that they have loaded all the setups for SD.
Few weeks ago they released a new DVCam.
While there are more HD production, the HD distribution is not fallowing the path.
