if using an FCP Generator:

with the text generator open in the viewer,
and before you cut it into the timeline,
go to the DURATION field (top left)
type in a longer duration, long enough for your clip.
now you should be able to do the Superimposition Edit

you mean the buttons?

control or right click on a button set.
you’ve got the option to add spacers there.
and colours!
the spacers are not flexible like the Safari or mail ones,
but you just keep adding more if you want, i guess

did you also know you can customise your finder windows in the same way as Safari or Mail?
just control or right click at the top and choose “Customise”

cant imagine those tiny labels going thru a printer.

i hand write on mine.

i;ve been using pretty much the same layout for years:

Name of show in RED
Brief Description in BLUE (not always, and not something you’d do in the field)
Reel # in BLACK, BOXED

sometimes we use a fluro coloured sticker for Reel # on the the box spine

you;d have few tapes, Mark 😉

from FCP export a QuickTime movie.
current settings, doesn’t need to be self contained if you are not moving between systems.

in Toast (this is V6 i have)

open toast.
click on the VIDEO tab at the top
if you get the camera icon (for capturing video) click on it so the area goes blue,
hit delete (there’s probably another way, but that works for me)

drag your QTMovie in

just above the video icon, click where it says DVD-Video or Video CD, or whatever,
a settings window opens on the right.

choose DVD-Video,
NTSC or PAL,
high or standard.

double click on the video icon itself in the main window
another window opens.
click on the “Video” button
there will be a “DVD Chapters” pulldown
choose “Every 5 minutes” in there.

you can choose which part of the file you want in the DVD,
you can add other files, and edit them, too

toast is a really simple way to make DVDs

DVHSCap, which i only learnt of after i;d sent the cameras back
this is part of the FireWire SDK 19 package free from the apple developers site.

this aparantly can be used to capture the footage,

then you can use the free Mpeg Streamclip to convert it into something FCP likes.

i used HDVxDV to capture,
and i;’m using MPEG Streamclip to convert as it’s a bit slicker than HDVxDV

“current settings”

that’s the first pulldown at the bottom of the export window,
just above the “make self contained” button

did you leave lots unrendered in your sequence, then?

tom’s solution is great, and the way to go if you can.

but if you’ve already exported some files, you can just bring them back into FCP to modify the TC to what you want.

(open in viewer Modify Menu > Timecode)

if you have changed the settings away from “current settings” it will need to re-compress everything, and could take hours.

a reference movie has to have the “current settings”

if you havent rendered your sequence then that could take hours, too.
