what am I doing wrong? I realize that this is probably a very simple thing for the scope of the experience on this site, BUT. . .I am trying to put some text over a video clip and apparently I have the settings wrong. A ten second text clip over the beginning of a 6 minute clip. I am following the directions in both the FCP help (4.5 HD by the way) and FCP for Dummies (obviously I am a dummie).

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance

Not 100% sure if this will work, but try going to Sequence Settings>>Timeline Options and set your Still Duration to 10 seconds.

    if using an FCP Generator:

with the text generator open in the viewer,
and before you cut it into the timeline,
go to the DURATION field (top left)
type in a longer duration, long enough for your clip.
now you should be able to do the Superimposition Edit

And if you didn’t already know, Superimpose is an editing style and all it does is place a clip of equal duration on the video track above the clip. It does not actually “Superimpose” the image. It’s confusing for newbies for sure.

Just know that you can just as easily drag and drop or do an Overwrite edit onto V2.
