a process i’ve used in the past is to create an FCP sequence preset (in the A/V Settings) that matches your post house requirements.

then you can easily do a simple Export as QuickTime Movie,
and, at the bottom of that window, change the Settings from “current settings”
to your saved preset.

that was before Compressor, and droplets,
which may well be a better solution.

in the Log & Capture window,
capture settings panel,

set device control to “non Controlable Device”

now you wont need TC to capture.

i was asking as i thought you might get smaller file sizes,
but 854×480 is so close to standard def it wont make much difference.

in fact i wonder if you might just as well convert to SD for better RT effects, etc.
i imagine your non-standard frame size means more rendering while you work?

what frame size are you working at?
do you need to be an HD frame size?
can you work at a Standard Def frame size?

you have to split the original sequence into reels, and make EDLs,
at the same time, split your existing ProTools sessions into matching reels.

then split the current sequence into reels and make EDLs.

or do it the old fashioned way and make lots of hand-written notes.

depending on the number of edits,
you might get away with less splits and larger sections,
but the standard 20 minutes or less IS a standard,
and is useful in many stages of post production.

there are other software solutions for this sort of process.
(i dont remember their names)
i don’t know if they can handle more then 999 events.
maybe they can.
from memory they are all rather expensive.

what you should do is split the FCP sequence into sections.

sounds like you might have your entire film in one timeline.
this is not really the way to go.
most post processes will bog down, or get overwhelmed with too much info like this.
best to split your film into chunks of 20 minutes or less.

THEN make your EDLs, OMFs etc.

in your case, i guess you sill have to split both your previous edit, and your current one,
and make new EDLs for both.

other ways to make the workflow faster:

work from the viewer,
define your clip with in/outs,
Apple U to “Make Subclip”
name the new subclip.

this skips the “make independent” step.

batch export as non self contained clips.

spell check just doesn’t exist in FCP, unfortunately 🙁

Spherico FIlm Tools Title Exchange Pro comes with a spell checker tool.
however i have found spell checking in Word to be a bit faster.

what i did on a recent job was to use Title Exchange Pro to turn my FCP subtitles into a DVD STL file,
and open that in Windows, where i did a quick and easy sell check.

i DID use the Title Exchange Pro spell checker tool to hunt out other forms of errors like double spaces, etc.
cant remember if that was before or after the word routine.

finally, i used Title Exchange Pro to convert the processed STL file back into FCP text
