yeah, using the track tool to move all fwd, then extend your clip, then moving all back…
it’s how i started using FCP, way back, but if you want to RIPPLE,
then why not RIPPLE?
there is a RIPPLE TOOL as well. very simple to use.
summon it with RR (for ripple)
summon the ROLL tool with just R.
(all told are of course in the tool bar)

grab the edge of the edit you want to ripple, and just drag it.
OR
select it, and enter a number bavlue.
OR
double click on it, opening the TRIM WINDOW. there you can use JKL to find just the right out-point

lots of ways to do things in FCP.

oh, moving all fwd with the track tool does NOT also move any timeline markers you may have.
ripple tool, and insert edit / insert paste does.

if the clip is not in the browser,
park on the clip in the timeline, hit Shift F,
FCP will ask if you want a new master cli.
Yes you do.

now you can Modify > Clip Name to match File Name
via modify menu, or by right clicking on the browser clip.

A reference movie can be quite large,
and it can contain some media.

it always contains audio, for instance, (if you exported with audio)

and if the timeline was not completely rendered, then a reference movie will contain rendered media for those sections.

i don’t know if there is some way to “get at” the media contained in that file.
i don’t think there is.

i wish i had better news for you, but i fear you may have to re-build the project if you really want that file.

i think you need to talk with the talent.
get the notes scanned and sent to you.

simple answer is NO, markers do not travel with the file / clip.
even FCP exports with chapter markers do not have those marks when brought back into FCP
(stupid, i know, when you can see those markers in QuickTime!)

and who knows what software your talent was using?

i have seen this behaviour as well.

reference movies (non-self contained exports from FCP) will not open in QT if every single file is not accounted for,
but QuickView WILL play what it can.

are you sure your file was self contained?
from your description the answer would appear to be no.

and, sorry, Anmol, you are wrong.
it is not hard to put in & out marks around a scene’s worth of edits and remove them,
or move, them, or whatever you need to do.

this is the way to do it.
sorry, I’m being a hard-ass, i know!
ok, so you have edited using the nest method, and now you are asking about finishing.

as Shane says you will have no end of trouble working the way you are.
in particular you will LOTS of trouble at the FINISHING stage, when you have to hand over to sound and gradings.
it has to be un-nested for that.

as shane says, you CAN work in one huge sequence,
or work in smaller sequences that are easier for the finishing people to handle.
talk to them if you have them and ask what they prefer.
some like a whole film, some prefer reels.

did you try sung Media Manger to do the up-scale?

Media: Create Offline
set sequences to: (your 1080 format)
delete unused NO

you create an offline version of the project with the correct up-scaling of moves etc (in theory!)
then you re-conect.
