thanks for the follow up….i’m running the latest version of windows before vista, not sure of the brand of video card, i had a friend put one in, and i have Avid Xpress Pro 4.6……i am the main and only adiministrator ….. the denied access came about after i re-named my omfi file and created a new one…..i would like to be able to delete this new Media File (mob) it won’t budge….and now when i capture something new (video) it prompts an immediate access denied and permission request…and it keeps doing that until i have to manually shut down…which i don’t like to do…….but the bin that i am most concerned about is in a new folder on my desktop……and i would love to know how to open it again…it has a week of work on it. why does it say can’t delete mob because it is still being referenced?
thanks michael.

i’m sorry about any confusion: but all OMFI files on my portable drive are there (in the file) but they don’t open up in the Avid when i open them up ……But all other OMFI files on my 2 internal drives are fine…..the portable drive was fine a few hours ago….but the Media Files here (portable drive) will not let me delete them…it says access is denied…..I imported new video to start all over and if that video doesn’t load up……thanks for taking the time and i really do need a lifeline here…the initial problem was that i couldn’t open a bin because it says “can’t open bin” “can’t delet mob file because it is still being referenced.” i do appreciate all and any help…..i do love working on my Avid and i want to continue to do so but if i can….tonight…once again. Thanks!

thanks to all how have given me advice…all good but all not working yet….now that i have moved OMFI files from folder to folder…i can’t seem to retrieve any of my video files for other projects…including the 6hrs. of video that i just imported….the files are there but they don’t import or open up in the Avid bin…..it just is empty….i tried deleting the Media Files but it says that move is restricted…as well as trying to move the OMFI on a temporary file on the desktop……now i’m really stuck and wouldn’t mind blowing off my initial problem (with deep regrets) and at lewast save everything else….these are all files on my portable drive which worked well…..the other drives also open up and i can work on other Avud Projects…..Help me get my feet back on the ground!!!!! Thanks!

hey grinner….i’m gonna try posting help one more last time but i did try removing Media Files in the OMFI for the drive this project is in…..then i rebooted the Avid and it scans the OMFI everytime and replaces the media files with new files…..and still “won’t open bin because of can’t delete mob because it is still being referenced” … it sucks…i was ready to lay this to tape 2 hr project a three camera shoot of an opera (6 hrs of video to re-imort and 3-4 days to edit it because it was shoot two different days and choregraphy is difeferent from each day…..i just added the credits and shut it down while i shot out to grab a starbucks and when i came back….no build just the bin that won’t open! 🙁 i’m gonna try deleting OMFI files starting from the latest on up and see if i by chance delete a corrupt file and save something from this build……any last chance ideas to save me from this nightmare….the worst in 10 years of editing? nick

grinner….i followed your advice about deleting the media files but everytime i do that, i see them re=appear when i hit the bin to open it…..is there another way to open my bin when it says it can’t because it “cannot because it can’t delet mob because it is still being referenced…please help me again! thanks!

hi grinner….i did look for an older version in the attic but i couldn’t find anything……..should i copy the bin into the attic version? thanks so far…..the project is on a portable drive “e” but my avid program is on my “c” drive…are there two attic spots….?
nick -
thanks grin…….i tried it (deleting the mediabase data files) that didn’t work and i tried my attic folders under that project and it’s empty…..I’m hoping you have another suggestion to save this project.
Thanks. Nick
