delete yur mediabase data files from your the OMFI folder those clips are in. They are the two files with icons that look like little avids. This otta allow you to open that bin again. If not, you can grab the last version of that sequence fromt he attic and keep it in a new bin.

thanks grin…….i tried it (deleting the mediabase data files) that didn’t work and i tried my attic folders under that project and it’s empty…..I’m hoping you have another suggestion to save this project.
    Thanks. Nick

Just out of curiosity… were you trying to delete the media data bases while Avid was still running? It makes sense it kicks back ” no can do, because they’re still being referenced”. Close Avid, then try again from the desktop level.

hey grinner….i’m gonna try posting help one more last time but i did try removing Media Files in the OMFI for the drive this project is in…..then i rebooted the Avid and it scans the OMFI everytime and replaces the media files with new files…..and still “won’t open bin because of can’t delete mob because it is still being referenced” … it sucks…i was ready to lay this to tape 2 hr project a three camera shoot of an opera (6 hrs of video to re-imort and 3-4 days to edit it because it was shoot two different days and choregraphy is difeferent from each day…..i just added the credits and shut it down while i shot out to grab a starbucks and when i came back….no build just the bin that won’t open! 🙁 i’m gonna try deleting OMFI files starting from the latest on up and see if i by chance delete a corrupt file and save something from this build……any last chance ideas to save me from this nightmare….the worst in 10 years of editing? nick

Close Avid and rename your OMFI MediaFiles folder to xOMFI MediaFiles. This will throw everything offline. Start Avid and try to open your bin. If it opens, you have corrupt media. Make a new title or import a short piece of media or graphic so Avid will create a new OMFI MediaFiles folder.

Once you’ve done that, minimize Avid and go to your new OMFI MediaFiles folder at the desktop level. Also open the xOMFI MediaFiles folder (where all of your media is) copy about 50 files over. Maximize Avid. It should rescan and reindex the media. If it doesn’t lock up or give you the error, minimize it again and transfer another 50 – 100 files. Maximize, let Avid rescan, look for the error. Repeat this until you get the error. Once you get the error, you’ve found your corrupt media–it will be in the last batch of media you transferred. Try moving those files out and let Avid rescan, then transfer them back in one by one. Delete the corrupt files when you find them and recapture what you delete.

Also, if you’re working with OMF media, how many files are in the OMFI MediaFiles folder? If you get too many (I’ve seen issues once you have more than 8,000 files in one folder) you can get weird errors.

Good luck. It’s frustrating when you’re almost done with a project and it just won’t finish because of an error. Also, try making a new project and trying to open the bin from in there.

    Michael.

the attic should be on the drive the project is on regardless of where the program is located.

thanks to all how have given me advice…all good but all not working yet….now that i have moved OMFI files from folder to folder…i can’t seem to retrieve any of my video files for other projects…including the 6hrs. of video that i just imported….the files are there but they don’t import or open up in the Avid bin…..it just is empty….i tried deleting the Media Files but it says that move is restricted…as well as trying to move the OMFI on a temporary file on the desktop……now i’m really stuck and wouldn’t mind blowing off my initial problem (with deep regrets) and at lewast save everything else….these are all files on my portable drive which worked well…..the other drives also open up and i can work on other Avud Projects…..Help me get my feet back on the ground!!!!! Thanks!
