Not only is this getting more & more confusing (you say you can’t work on other projects, then you say you can) but to make it more confusing is the way the COW is showing several of these posts. The dates and time are all screwed up.

i’m sorry about any confusion: but all OMFI files on my portable drive are there (in the file) but they don’t open up in the Avid when i open them up ……But all other OMFI files on my 2 internal drives are fine…..the portable drive was fine a few hours ago….but the Media Files here (portable drive) will not let me delete them…it says access is denied…..I imported new video to start all over and if that video doesn’t load up……thanks for taking the time and i really do need a lifeline here…the initial problem was that i couldn’t open a bin because it says “can’t open bin” “can’t delet mob file because it is still being referenced.” i do appreciate all and any help…..i do love working on my Avid and i want to continue to do so but if i can….tonight…once again. Thanks!

If you’re getting accessed denied issues, you have security/permissions settings. We need information about your system.

What OS are you running? What video card? What version of Quicktime? What version of Xpress Pro?

We need more info to better pinpoint your problem. I’m guessing you don’t have full administrative rights to access your media, hence why you can’t delete it.

thanks for the follow up….i’m running the latest version of windows before vista, not sure of the brand of video card, i had a friend put one in, and i have Avid Xpress Pro 4.6……i am the main and only adiministrator ….. the denied access came about after i re-named my omfi file and created a new one…..i would like to be able to delete this new Media File (mob) it won’t budge….and now when i capture something new (video) it prompts an immediate access denied and permission request…and it keeps doing that until i have to manually shut down…which i don’t like to do…….but the bin that i am most concerned about is in a new folder on my desktop……and i would love to know how to open it again…it has a week of work on it. why does it say can’t delete mob because it is still being referenced?
    thanks michael.

Right click on My Computer (it should be on your desktop, or click the Start button bottom left and you’ll find it there). It will tell you if you have Windows XP Home, Professional, or Media Center. It will also tell you if you’re running Service Pack 1, 2, or 3. We need to know exactly what you’re running. Hint–it needs to be Windows XP Professional, service pack 2. Anything else and it will explain the problems.

Also, have you turned off simple file sharing?

    Michael.

    any luck?

try searching through your avid attic files and find the specific bin that you’re trying to open. rename the extension to .avb — then open bin it with avid.

there will be tons of these bins in your attic as it automatically saves your bin’s history there. work your way backwards until you get to open it.

once you get to open it with a specific bin (supposing all the others failed) see if you could recognize the files which are different in that bin. if it’s missing a file, that file could be the corrupted media.
