OR… you might consider telling the prospective client that while you can lock the price for 30 days you must have the OPTION after that to raise the price up to 10% based on any changes in your rental costs and which subtracted crew members may or may not be available. Handle this apologetically and politely and explain that it’s a very fluid market and you’d very much like to protect THEM with this one POSSIBILITY.
How you handle this can also have a very positive impact on how they trust you and therefore want you to win the gig. Even though people always say money is their number one concern it often isn’t. TRUST in the quality and RELIABILITY of the end product is what closes the deal more often than not.
Now the reality: when do we ever see prices for rental gear going UP? In my experience it almost always stays the same or goes down as technology marches forward. The real concern is being able to lock in people you can depend on.

I have no idea if they will sell/rent their mailing lists but… in DC there is an Association of Associations. That may at least provide you with a starting point to reach out to them directly.
As to contacting the hotels I believe you should contact the “Group Sales” manager and just politely provide them with your contact info and a list of past meetings you’ve done.

As usual I fully agree with Mark. We also use unlisted YouTube all the time. We also delete the files after they’ve served their review purpose.

Bought my first Mac in (wait for it…) 1984. The next year had the board modified into a “Fat Mac.” Then SE, the Mac (whatever the one with slots was called). Shortly thereafter the fist Avid system was released, based on a Mac, so little choice there, at least initially. Jump ahead through a dozen or more Mac iterations flowing through my business and I’m quite used to paying a premium price for a box, OS and peripherals that I understand. AND here’s the key: earn a pretty decent living with.
Sure most things today can be done on a PC but in the early days user surveys showed that the average PC user had their machine for 1 to 3 apps, period. (I remember a client referring to one computer as their “Lotus” computer while a “Word Perfect” computer was a couple of desks away.) At the same time the average Mac user utilized 7 to 8 apps. (And I’m not even going to begin to count the number of apps, plug-ins, etc. running on our current systems.) So I’m stuck, but I’m happy and productive.
Now here’s what I HATE: The Apple store operates in such a way that you have to make an APPOINTMENT and WAIT to buy anything — even a $25 iPhone case. What’s of more concern is how the branded cell phone stores are adopting the same business model. Not surprising how eCommerce is turning into such a better experience for those of us who know what we want to BUY.

Well completely run-related but since this is a similar mis-usage of the language:
Every episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has a voiceover that says “Live from tape…” Well it’s not.
It should “RECORDED live TO tape…” (which is technically not true because there are often places where you can see an edit has been made). That aside, it SHOULD say “Recorded live to a multi-disk array and played back with minor edits and censorships…” (Before it’s archived likely to some form of DLT).
But I guess that’s asking for WAY TOO MUCH technical correctness.

Well Mark, I’ve always loved the Flanders stuff because of the many, many, many features. So good to be able to check things in the field like waveform and audio levels as well as a decent focus assist. At present I shoot with a 7″ and post with a 21″.
In addition to two SDI ports our Flanders also have a DVI input which I use when switching over to the Canon C 100.
Now the part about the bank, not sure what your budget calls for but I feel I have definitely gotten what I’ve paid for with each of the three Flanders I’ve owned.

Sorry for just seeing this now, T2. And I feel your pain. That said…
Mark takes a very optimistic view of your situation. But I seriously doubt the process ahead will be easy. Prepare yourself for a lot of hard work and some pain.
I don’t believe that closing is a good option at all. A better idea might be to look to merge with a friendly (or at least nearby) competitor. Your value would be a solid and growing base of clients as well as your by now exceptional skill set. Their value for you would be having the business side of things presumably operating smoothly as well as having people for sales/producing. May not be easy to identify this company, likely WILL result in some of your current staff being let go by the new entity, so as said above: prepare yourself for a lot of hard work and some pain.

I’m not sure about all batteries, but Lithium batteries have been known to overheat and even catch fire when over-charged. But we always take all batteries off the chargers once fully charged. Call it an abundance of caution.

I can only speak for myself because in our type of work there’s basically NEVER that handheld/shoulder-held shooting involves sound. That said, the MD7506 are the standard for field monitoring and using some form of ear bud seems prone to missing problems.
