Thank you Mark. That is really helpful. I have been playing with keyframes and motion now for an hour and am getting somewhere. A lot further than I got before, to say the least!

One of the effects I would like to recreate is the simple effect you see 40 seconds into this video:

I think I am not far off – I understand I need to bring in a video track from the right hand of the screen but I can’t work out how to blur the right hand side of the split screen – so you can still “see” the screen underneath but it is in soft focus. My guess is it is in the effects tab but I cannot get it to work for myself.

Just as a little addendum to my question above, I also notice that if I get the combinations wrong, the videos in the viewer just freeze completely and I cannot multicam edit. I think this happens if “video” is selected for both but I am not sure. So, as well as answering the above, I would be so grateful if someone could advise me how to avoid the screens freezing like this in the viewer.

I can confirm that both the clips have been converted in MPEGStreamclip to identica DV PAL formats with identical frame rates, sizes etc.

I am a little at my wits end here. I just refuse to believe that my sparkly new MPB with an i5 processor cannot keep up with a simple 2 camera multicam edit. I am praying that the freezing is due to something I am doing wrong, rather than a problem with the hardware. If it’s the hardware which cannot keep up, I really am bemused (and a little screwed!)

Thank you both for kindly taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it.

I *think* I may have sorted it. I went deep into the settings of the conversions of each file and made sure that everything was identical. I thought they were indentical but it would appear not everything matched. It seems to have worked, fingers crossed.

I totally agree with your point about the external drive, I will definitely implement that.

I am having a serious issue converting the MPEG2 (sony camcorder) file to DV Pal or ProRes 422 in Compressor. Although Compressor sees the file, it fails every time I try to convert it. I have no such problems with the MP4 file from the Flip.

I have tried to use MPEGStreamClip and that is happy to encode the file there but FCPro will not allow the encoded file to be used in multicam.

I really am stumped on this. Surely I will not have to change my camera? Will I?!

There must be some way of making this file compatible… (I hope!)
