Serious audio slippage issue
Good morning everyone. I have tried to find an answer to this on the forums but haven’t been able to resolve it.
I produce cookery videos for my video blog. I record my rushes on two Flip cameras (MP4) and my sound on a Zoom H4 in WAV. I know it’s not a hi-tec solution but it serves the purpose.
I then convert my MP4s to DV PAL (so they are compatible with multicam editing in FCP), turn them into multiclips and simply line up the Zoom audio with the audio from the Flips. I then delete the audio from the flips and just use the audio from the Zoom.
The problem this time seems to be that I recorded the audio as an MP3, due to accidentally pressing the wrong button on the zoom.
I have converted it to an AIFF but the audio is slipping really badly. I have tried different conversion settings but, by the end of the 10 minute clip, the slippage is VERY bad when I compare the Zoom audio to the original audio on the Flip footage!
I am sure this is due to me using MP3 instead of WAV. Obviously something is not working well with the conversion.
The only solution I could think of (very clunky) is to break the audio up into 30 second segments and just keep re-aligning it with the rushes. I will do that if I have to but is there another, better solution?
Is there anything I can do with the original files to make sure they don’t slip? Am I missing an important trick with the conversion settings?
Or am I basically stuck??!!
ANY help on this would be hugely appreciated, it is starting to drive me mad!!!
