Thanks for the feedback! The workflow seems to be working well – the audio seems out of sync by a couple of frames and I’m working to figure out if that’s just my imagination, or if i need to adjust it.

I’m doing the IVT using Cinema tools, to save space as well as work with a progressive image as I’m adding a few FX using Saaphire Fx in 24P (23.98) and then doing the encode. Its working well so far…

November 13, 2005 at 11:10 pm in reply to: Panasonic’s DVDPRO HD and Avid Xpress HD

Thanks Michael. So Xpress HD does not handle the variable frame rate feature of the Varicam? That is the prime reason for us to go with the camera as opposed to the Sony CineAlta, so that’d be a huge hit against Xpress HD.

Is the missing piece in Xpress HD the Frame Rate Convertor (or FMC) software component that seems to be available on the Panasonic website for Final Cut Pro HD?

I’m wondering if this means that even with the new Panasonic HVX100 P2 Camcorder, Xpress HD will not be able to ingest variable frame rates.

Finally, if we are able to move up to Adrenaline HD, will these limitations disappear, or do they still persist?

    Thanks,

    oakmozart,

Not to add more fuel to the fire, but its true. Avid media composer interface is outdated. I hate it, although I use it.

What I really want Avid to do is bring the DS interface to the lower end systems as well. I was really excited when Avid bought Softimage, thinking it might really bring amazing leaps in the Avid lineup.

But I haven’t seen it yet – not on the lower end machines yet.

Avid, if you are listening, can you PLEASE make a DS interface based low end machine that can blow FCP out of the water?

    Thanks,

October 7, 2005 at 6:44 pm in reply to: Avid DNxcel type card for Xpress Pro HD…?

Thanks, I’m hoping something along these lines takes shape for the low end as well.

i.e. a hardware card that can take HD-input from these high end decks, and dump DNxHD format media onto disk. Then, I can use AVID Xpress Pro HD to work with this material, and stay in this mastering format.

This would obviate the need for me to ever consider Avid Adrenaline HD, atleast in terms being able to ingest HD material from these decks. Correct?

I really hope someone is thinking along these lines, it’d make Avid Xpress Pro HD so much more compelling and really make it equivalent to Final Cut Pro HD on the low end.

    Thanks,

Thanks! The bin conform worked well. About the only problem I had was that I didn’t have a two-pop and so the editor manually re-synced the audio. Only had to find one sync point as the rest fell into place.

I stuck with standard Avid Xpress DV effects and they recreated well exactly the same on the Symphony. I color corrected a couple of shots on the Symphony and I was all set.

Output the 16:9 source video as 16:9 and in 1:77 using a symphony effect and I was done!

    Thanks,
    Nikhil
