You treat Premiere projects that you have imported into After Effects (or copied and pasted) just as you would any other After Effects composition. In other words, there is NO deterioration in quality, because no intermediate rendering takes place.

Yes, you can certainly copy and paste clips between AE and Premiere. You can also import an entire Premiere Pro project into an After Effects project. Of course this method does not use dynamic link.

February 1, 2009 at 12:27 pm in reply to: DL break jumps to menu instead of continuing video.I’m having almost the exact same problem. It would be nice if someone could give a solution to this.
I have a 3 hour, 20 minute video split into 2 almost identically-sized timelines. When the DVD player gets to the layer break, rather than continue playing the video as it should, it jumps to the second timeline (which is set as the end action of the first timeline). I was thinking of simply outputting a single timeline from Premiere Pro, but I have heard this makes no difference. I do believe that some DVD players have problems with layer breaks set in Encore.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the only solution is to make a DVD that has enough space left over so that you still get to manually select the break point. When there is little room left on the disc, Encore cannot allow you to manually select the break point because this would mean that too much information could be present on one half of the DVD.

January 16, 2009 at 7:58 am in reply to: Animated background restarts when I roll over! (CS4)I’ve just discovered this bug also. It didn’t exist in Encore CS3. I’ve also noticed that button highlights look terrible — as if they’ve been partially “eroded” or something. Hopefully it will be fixed in the next update.

Thanks for the tip. I was thinking that maybe using a null object might be the way to go.

September 2, 2008 at 5:32 am in reply to: Multiprocessing begins working well then goes back to one frame at a timeI’m talking about BOTH. That is, the problem sometimes occurs when making a movie through the render queue, and sometimes with a RAM preview. I am wondering whether it’s because I sometimes have other applications running at the same time (which I might use), that somehow interfere with the multiprocessing. Nothing major, mind you, only programs like iTunes, Safari, Mail or Word. However the problem often occurs well before all of the free RAM is used up, so it’s not like the other applications are robbing AE of RAM.

Unfortunately I didn’t save the After Effects Project with the “faulty” tornado text because I was just trying it out. But I retried the tornado text today, and it’s working exactly the way you did it. That is, all letters are at 90 degrees at all times. If I ever encounter the other problem again, I will post a screen shot. Thanks.

July 31, 2008 at 7:05 am in reply to: Compressed Premiere clip much bigger than uncompressed After Effects clipI don’t know what on earth I did wrong, but I have just managed to output the DV file from Premiere Pro which is much smaller than the lossless AE one, as it should be. Strangely, however, this smaller DV file looks no more compressed than the larger DV file I mentioned in my above post. I think the problem was to do with progressive scan and field order settings (which I forgot I have played around with), but I can’t recreate the problem.

Thanks for the info, Jon. Are you sure that no 64-bit CS products will be made for Mac at all? I just read an April 2008 blog from some Adobe guy saying that while CS4 won’t be 64-bit for Mac, that CS5 probably would be. Perhaps that announcement from Apple came after this blog, in which case maybe CS6 is more likely!
As for HD — that’s one thing I’ve not yet got into. I’d love to work with HD, but I’ve read a lot of horror stories about it, and am waiting for better compatibility between cameras, software and hardware before I go down that path.
