I have a camera set up in a 3D environment. I have Point of Interest turned off (I find its motion too unpredictable). So instead I’ve just been using the camera’s position and rotation co-ordinates to get it to aim at whatever I want.

However I just discovered a really annoying problem where changing the X rotation values will cause the camera to rotate around the Z-axis, and not the X-axis as it should. In other words, I cannot get the camera to rotate around the X-axis, no matter what I do! I have not touched the orientation values at all. I have set up a new camera and the problem goes away. But I shouldn’t have to do this. Has anyone else experienced this problem and do you know anything I can do to solve it?

I’m running AE CS3 with a Mac Pro (8-core) and 15 GB of RAM.

try parenting the camera to a 3d null object and animating the null instead. That should clear up the problem

Thanks for the tip. I was thinking that maybe using a null object might be the way to go.
