A cost effective solution to video playback would be something like Apple’s Keynote. I personally go between two programs, Renewed Vision’s ProPresenter and ProVideo Player, for all of my live playback needs: https://www.renewedvision.com/

Also to say, with ProPresenter, the Advanced Module, and the Triple Head to Go, it allows you to span single graphics across three screens, it allows you to put the same graphic on screen, and it allows you to put text on any of the three screens. The cost is also unparalleled in doing multiscreen video: a iMac $1800-2200, ProPresenter $400, the Advanced Module $200, and a Matrox Triple Head to GO $300 VGA/$350 DVI = $2700-$3200 depending.

While not a PC solution, a great offering is Renewed Vision’s ProPresenter. With one Mac computer running ProPresenter, you purchase two additional things, a software add on for ProPresenter called the “Advanced Module” as well as a piece of physical hardware called a Matrox Triple Head to Go. This then lets your one computer do a three screen “video wall”.
From an operators standpoint, it makes it incredibly easy to load and execute 3 screen video content.
I’ve installed quite a few of these in churches and I use this same setup at lots of concerts and various other places. I actually used it last night!

My thought was to recommend a Mac running ProPresenter using a Triple Head to Go with their Advanced Module which allows specific control/functionality with the TH2GO, but I know you said you needed more advanced functionality such as PiP.

While it is a bit “simpler” in operation and functionality, have you checked out Renewed Visions’ ProVideo Player? It runs on Mac OS and is incredibly stable, I’ve been using it for years. https://www.renewedvision.com/pvp.php

The only thing I can think about would be to check out Figure 53’s qLab. It has a MIDI timecode cue…

if you want a crazy idea, mac alternative, I’m not sure if you’re familiar with the Apple developer software called Quartz Composer. In short, somebody built a multiscreen-networked synced video engine that is open-source. If you’re interested you can modify it to receive MIDI and now with some further toying, can get it to receive Artnet and then DMX via a DMX to arnet box. If you’re at all interested you can find details here: https://anselan.blogspot.com/2008/09/ygbox-goes-open-source.html

There is a company named Renewed Vision (www.renewedvision.com) that have a presentation product named ProPresenter and a video engine named ProVideo Player. They’ve done a lot using TripleHead2Gos and actually have built support into their software to allow extend use of them. This allows one machine to control content out to three displays. Check it out here: https://www.renewedvision.com/pp.php?page=modules#advanced. It’s really affordable and pretty easy to setup.
