Thanks very much for your help Gabriel. About Bridge, I didn’t find tags anywhere. I must be looking in the wrong menu then. Would they be in the metadata menu buried somewhere? But yes, tags would be awesome.

I actually ended up tagging my media using My Mac pro’s Finder app. But I don’t believe Premiere will recognize tags made in the Finder app, will it?

Hi Ken,

Sorry for the delay. Yes, I did and I’ve had no complaints so far. I would say that the 5K Retina iMac i7 with 32GB maxed out is marginally faster than my maxed out 2012 iMac i7. And so far I’ve had no issues whatsoever editing 4K video with Premiere Pro CC. No issues at all either with AE or FCPX. Very happy with my purchase. I’m sure next year will see an even better model, but I can’t complain. Being able to see everything razor sharp on the screen is pure joy. Since I use Illustrator and Photoshop a lot as well, I’m really enjoying working on the iMac Retina. No need to be worried, the iMac Retina works perfectly, at least for me.

Hi Joseph,

Can’t speak for gaming because I don’t have any on that machine. But I can tell you that I have no problem whatsoever editing 1080p and even 4K into a 1080p timeline on the 5K retina. The machine is supposed to be marginally faster (18% ) than a maxed 2012 iMac Retina.

No issues for me at least. Hope that helps.

Thank you very much for that detailed feedback Paul. I’m so glad I started learning Prelude for all those reasons you just mentioned.
I was also quite impressed with the waveform display in that film strip window and found it very convenient for dialogue. Like looking at the film strip in FCPX where you see the waveform right under the picture. I’m also just now also starting to get used to those “tags”. Is that a new feature that came with the CC update? I don’t recall seeing it in CS6, but yes it’s super convenient.

Thanks again Paul. You’ve convinced me to go with Prelude for logging. Definitely more versatile than Premiere when it comes to marking and noting shots.

Quick question: is it possible to assign a keyboard shortcut to inserting a “tag” like you can with markers???

Yes on both. Same brightness levels and both running Yosemite.

Hi Walter,

I know, thank you, I already have the slider set all the way to the left – darkest. But it is a little strange that the interface looks brighter on the iMac Retina than on a non-retina. I wonder what could be causing that.

Hello everyone,

I just finished setting up my new iMac Retina and immediately downloaded and started running Premiere Pro. Delighted to confirm no problems whatever. And the blue text (though I prefer the legacy yellow hot text) is considerably easier to read on the retina iMac than on my older (2012) iMac. No crashes or glitches yet. Fingers crossed.

Though for some reason the Premiere Pro CC interface on the iMac Retina 5K is noticeably less dark (less black and more grey) than on a regular iMac. Not sure why that would be the case. But I discovered that if you into System Preferences to Display Settings – Color, and select “Apple RGB” instead of “iMac”, you will get a darker interface which is what i selected.

Has anyone else with an iMac retina noticed the Premiere interface being more grey than it is on a regular iMac???

Hi Rob,

It arrived a few days ago but haven’t had time to set it up yet. I went with the upgraded 295X AMD graphics card, the i7, SSD drive, and 32GB of RAM from OWC. Will be testing Premiere, AE, and other programs later this week and let you know.

So far, some on youtube are posting very positive reviews of the iMac 5K Retina being put through it’s paces:
