I don’t think it (FCS) works that well. I ran it twice and it didn’t remove the apps, I guess just preferences. I read the pdf and it said if you want to remove everything go down to step 4. Since it didn’t remove anything, it filled up my HD after the second attempted install of FCP. Anyway, I went into the library and removed the actual apps using omni disc sweeper. And when I removed everything FCP related, I had an extra 80GB of HD space. I am going to install one more time on the G4, the I just may reformat the HD like you said.

Cool Thanks. I am going to ask an idiot question here.

I think I asked you guys about problems with compressor before. Will this uninstall and take out any compressor problems?

Let me go back a bit. I have a G5 and can’t run compressor under my user name. I have to log in under another user name to run compressor. I have tried compressor rescue/etc and every other method I can think of.

I had the academic version of FCP 5 and bought a serial number on ebay from Final cut 2 that was valid. I was able to upgrade with no problem to 6 and everything in FCP works. Anyway so for future installations I should get rid of the old version of FCP no matter what? Apple told me it was fine to install over the old apps. Anyway, I have been living with these problems (p2 injest and compressor) for a while.

Any follow up is good, but I may have answered my own question. I am just a little ragged out because I am on a deadline.

I just ran the DVD player or VCR into the camera and recorded to tape. It worked and I had to recapture to burn to a DVD. Not the best way to do it, but since I didn’t have a capture card, it got the job done!

    Thanks for the help

I know little about the DVD recorders. Even though I can make DVDs via DVDSP. The disc initialized and I am able to play it back on the DVD recorder. I will go back and see if there is another step. Man I wished I could afford a Matrox MXO2. Not for this, but I could have knocked this out nicely.

April 28, 2009 at 2:16 am in reply to: bass roll-off question?

    Thanks Greg,

I am a video guy that does a lot of VO. I don’t have a lot of background in sound. I recorded the sound for an hour. Should I just take 5 minute samples and layer them together while looping. I have never looped before. I have tried and it didn’t come out to well. Is there an article on how to loop sounds..any sound, not a loop in Sountrack Pro or a sound efx?

April 17, 2009 at 3:58 pm in reply to: export question

Thanks, it does, but I have exported in NTSC-DV or the same frame rate/resolution I am editing with and the final export didn’t have the quality I wanted. I guess, I was getting aliasing and decided to go the animation route for the smoothest render.

For some reason I can’t edit this post, but I export from AE always as an animation for graphic work.

I am so bummed. I went through this paper by the letter and still don’t have a compressor. <https://support.apple.com/kb/TS1888?viewlocale=en_US>

Again, the app starts, but there is no interface.

I talked to apple and we set up admin account. When I signed on compressor started right up. They said it could be anything corrupting it. Apple suggested I migrate over to the other account Personally I cant take the time. I would have to go and find all my plug ins and I again am on a clock: not a calendar. I am going to use the white paper they sent me to to try and trash the preference files, trash compressor and try a reinstall. I looked at the white paper and there is a lot to trash. I ran DR’s Comp repair and it didn’t have any affect. I would hope it would trash all the prefs.

If you have any other suggestions, I will appreciate it.

    Thanks for the help.

I can’t call it up again. May have been a youtube video, but I am sure it was 3D studio max. It was pretty convincing.
