This should be your database settings. This is typical for a PAL film project, with film shot at 24fps. Sound TC settings may vary.

Check if FCP shows the correct timecode and keycode for your original clips. FCP 6 and later can show timecode as well as keycode in the TC overlays.

The DSR-45 is an SD deck. How come you are feeding 720p23.98 to it. The deck is expecting either PAL or NTSC (depending on your country).

Try with a SD sequence.

In your 720×480 Anamorphic 29.97 timeline, simply place your 640×360 clip and scale it to fit the frame. Don’t use distort. FCP will scale the frame and pixels to make it anamorphic 720×480. If you absolutely must do it outside and use a software that doesn’t know about non-square pixels, then you’re right. it will have to be 853×480. Your math is right.

When I’m authoring NTSC DVDs and menus need to be 16:9, I often create graphics as 853×480. There’s no other way.

In PAL it would have to be 1024×576. That’s the ratio we use when exporting from a software like Resolve and we need it to go into a PAL anamorphic project.

Your clips need to be 24 fps. And for each clip, in the browser column ‘TC rate’ you should see 24@25 not 24 or 25. and the sequence that contains your edit, should also show 24@25 for TC rate.

If the clips and/or the seq are not 24@25, you can change them to 24@25 even now.

But whatever happens do NOT conform the clips back to 25 once they have been conformed to 24.

After you take the clips from the timeline to the browser, you will have timeline clips in the browser. Rename these to reflect the names you need in the order you need. When exported, the exported files will take the names of the clips in the browser, not those in the timeline. So if you name them in the order you need, they will come out that way too.

Actually, I need to check this out, haven’t tried this in a while.

After you placed the clips from the timeline to the browser, you can rename the clips in the browser first, to have the names you want.
Then in the batch export controls select ‘Mark in/out’ so that batch export respects the in and out for each clip.
