  • Film list problems – Pull list inside is OK but Cut List not

Posted by Vasilis Chatzivasileiou on February 12, 2010 at 10:19 am

    Hi all

Finished the edit of a feature shot on 35mm 4p. All telecine files were conformed to 24 fps and then batch list imported into FCP. So far so good. The edit is now done and we are just about to go for the DI only the film list exported from FCP is completely wrong. Tell a lie, the pull list inside it is OK but the cut list is completely screwed. Any ideas, please?

I checked the flex files against each clip and there is nothing wrong with them.

I also tried to conform the telecine files back to 25 fps but no joy. The cut list is still wrong.

Your advice and help would be greatly appreciated. I dread having to do this by hand.

    Thanks in advance

Your clips need to be 24 fps. And for each clip, in the browser column ‘TC rate’ you should see 24@25 not 24 or 25. and the sequence that contains your edit, should also show 24@25 for TC rate.

If the clips and/or the seq are not 24@25, you can change them to 24@25 even now.

But whatever happens do NOT conform the clips back to 25 once they have been conformed to 24.

    Hi Neil

Thanks you for your reply and my apologies for my late response. Both clips and sequence have a TC rate of 24 @ 25. Still the problem remains. The Cinema tools database though is set at 25 fps (all records). Would it help if i changed it to 24 fps?. Additionally as far as I know the timecode output in FCP is the native one. Could the issue be that what is needed is to output the timecode from each and every clip?

Once again thank you for your time and help

This should be your database settings. This is typical for a PAL film project, with film shot at 24fps. Sound TC settings may vary.

Check if FCP shows the correct timecode and keycode for your original clips. FCP 6 and later can show timecode as well as keycode in the TC overlays.

    Once again thanks so much

I initially thought that since the clips were conformed to 24 fps the database should reflect that. At least my settings are correct. I’ll keep you posted.

    Thanks for your time.

    Hi Neil

Sorry for the very late response. Just to let you know that the last update to FCP took the problem away. Not researching any further, I need my marbles.

    thanks for your time
