From what I remember when I had Resolve Lite, if you installed Resolve Lite on a system it wouldn’t let you make a 2k project. If you inserted a dongle it would. Can’t remember which version behaved that way, but this is one way to have a ‘floating’ Resolve license.

Haven’t tried this with v9 yet. I’ve upgraded both my systems to the full Resolve. so I don’t have any lite to test this out.

The 15″ non-Retina MacBook Pro will also work as long as you get the ‘hires’ version with a resolution of 1680×1050. Available only online for $100 over the normal price.

If you live in a country with no Apple online store, you can get the standard 2.6GHz 15″ MacBook Pro and add an external 24″ 1920×1080 display and run Resolve that way.

The new non-Retina MBP and Retina MBP both have the same GPU, a nVidia GTX 650 which is really fast compared to the earlier ATI GPU.

I didn’t get down to making it into a ‘script’ or some kind of an automated ‘gather’. I do have a working ‘calculator’ which enables me to define frame ranges to copy. then I get some interns to manually copy it over to a single folder and make Resolve conform to that folder.

For a feature I was consulting for, the edit happened in one city, and the grading in another, many thousands of kms away. We ‘consolidated’ the Apple ProRes4444 clips with 12 frame handles, using Resolve and uploaded them.

For the few scenes that were shot on ArriRAW, we copied .ari sequences with handles and uploaded those. I had made a script to parse .ari file sequences (from the original sequences) using an EDL. Selective copy because Resolve (or any other software for that matter) can’t export ArriRAW files.

It all worked fine.

The Mac OS does not support GPUs over Thunderbolt-PCI. Any other card is supported.

I’ve just got a Mercury Helios Thunderbolt-PCI from OWC. It works just fine for connecting an Atto SAS card to a MBP.

Looks like the G-speed eS RAID only works with the supplied eSATA card, and only in a MacPro.

I just installed Lite 9.0b3 on my 1440×900 MBP 15.4″. And now I can see all the buttons in the project screen as well as set burn in parameters. Maybe they fixed it for 9.0b3. On a cursory glance I don’t seem to be missing any interface elements.

Will check against a 23″ Cinema.

Do you have the 2012 MBP 15.4″ 2.3 GHz or 2.6 GHz. They have different GPU RAM sizes. 2.3 has 512 MB, while 2.6 has 1 GB. Which one are you referring to?
And have you added an SSD or are you using the stock 500/750 GB HDD?

So you’re running a new MacBook Pro 15″ with USB 3, and getting 40 fps on the stock nVIdia GT 650?
Because the older 15″ MBP didn’t have USB 3 and had a ATI GPU which never gave me 40fps.

I don’t see those speeds even with a nVidia Quadro 4000 in a MacPro with 32 GB RAM converting Alexa ProRes to DNxHD36 MXF with a LUT and burn-in. I get about 36fps on the MacPro, and never over 24fps in a 2.2 GHz i7 MBP (2011 model).

What are you converting in Resolve 9 at 40 fps on your MBP?

But at 1440×900, some buttons get hidden. Particularly the burn-in controls are unusable.
