Like Shane and Andrew I too am a freelancer and as such don’t often get a choice of system. Most of the places I work were and still are Avid. A few FCP7 set-ups have switched to Avid but there are still quite a few about. Never seen or been asked to use FCPX at any broadcaster or facility house so far. There have been a few “rumblings” about Premiere but nowhere of any size seems to have it although I have seen Premiere jobs advertised at corporate places.
For my personal work I use Avid Symphony by default and still a bit of FCP7 depending on the job but mostly I keep FCP 7 simply because I have more plug-ins including Sapphire for FCP. I still use Color but am slowly getting more into Resolve. I might subscribe to CC while the price is low but to be honest its only because I want to play with Premiere as so many people seem to like it and I think I stand more chance of being asked to use it on a job rather than FCPX.
So my decisions are informed by what people are willing to pay me to use and Avid pretty much wins that race hands down in the environment I work.
Be interesting to see if Premiere or FCPX make any headway though as FCP7 declines.best wishes

I am running same configuration as Shane 10.7.5 and FCP 7.03 without any issues at all.

Shane is of course quite correct, I rather hastily jumped to the conclusion you were talking frames but now I think about it I am not sure the C300 shoots in 50 or 60 frames at 1080 but only interlaced at that rate. I think you can shoot 60 frames at 720 only.

Hi Ken
Use Cinema Tools to conform the footage to your desired frame rate. It will then run at half speed. Before you do this make a copy of the media you wish to conform and work on the copies as its a destructive process.
This tutorial is PAL 50 to 25 but exactly same applies to 59.94 footage.

If it always crashes at the same point it could be some kind of corrupted file or render file.
Why not try exporting as per your sequence settings, which should be much quicker than 9 hours and then use something else to make the H264 ?
(If it still crashes at the same point its almost certainly a dodgy file.)
MPEG Streamclip would work, or Compressor if you have it – just whatever transcoding software you have.
I too have found Avid a little slow at transcoding long H264 files although not had your specific crash.
Might save you lots of frustration ?best wishes

My guess is that this is simply a hard drive speed issue. It sounds like you are trying to copy files on the same drive as your FCP media – is this the case ?
If so its almost certainly that your HD (s) are just not quick enough to perform both functions simultaneously. Can you give more info on your storage set-up please ? That will help identify the issue.

I am not aware of anywhere you can download FCP7 – so despite having a serial number you will need a set of disks. The whole of FCP Studio is about 6 DVDs so a download would be huge if it existed. So Apple would need to send you a whole set of disks rather than a “replacement disc”

4×3 PAL is 720×576 – it sounds like what you created before was anamorphic hence the distortion. As Rafael rightly says you can either provide a letterboxed version (black bar top and bottom) or a centre cut out version (full frame but you lose the sides). My guess is that they would prefer the full frame option as sometimes broadcasters are not keen on letterboxes pictures.
PAL can be interlaced or progressive, I would create a 4×3 interlaced sequence, you can happily edit your progressive material into that. FCP will letterbox 16×9 material by default but just expand to fill the frame (losing sides) You can adjust left right a little if something important is lost.
You need to check caption safe area too – if you have graphics they may need adjusting so they are 4×3 safe.Did they specify any more detail than just ‘MPEG’ ? – might be worth double checking the spec they require for that. Usually broadcasters publish a delivery requirements document that should give you all the information you need to comply with delivery.

Just to add to Rafaels points which are totally correct, DVDSP is no longer available so unless you already have FCP Studio you cant buy it new.
Encore is probably the next best thing with comparable features and the ability to create BluRay. Although you will need to buy a BluRay burner. You could get this as a stand-alone app via Creative Cloud on a monthly subscription basis. Otherwise you will need the whole of Creative Suite.
