You cant simply put your PAL master into a NTSC sequence and let it render that out and export. FCP will make a total mess of that and you will get all kinds of frame skipping and other visual issues.
Probably the cheapest option outside of Compressor is the Nattress standards convertor plug-in. I don’t think there is a demo version but it is $100US which is about £65.

Most PAL DVD players will happily play NTSC DVD’s and as long as your TV is not too ancient likelihood is that will switch too, but without proper conversion you are going to end up in trouble with that one.

OK so the codec used to create these files is Sorensen video 3. To be honest thats not one I have ever used with FCP or Avid come to that.
I am pretty sure its not an ideal codec to work with in FCP. FCP really likes ProRes files, with a few exceptions anything else gives it hassle one way or another.
I am willing to bet that Sorensen Video 3 files is the root of your issue.
Do you have tons of footage ? Is it practical to transcode your source to ProRes 422 ? It will likely take up more drive space but thats normal. Alternatively you need to start a ProRes sequence of the correct size and frame rate and cut and paste your current edit into the new sequence. It will need to be rendered but the odd frames and flashes etc will go away.Generally its best to transcode your source to ProRes before you start to edit and then you will get a much smoother ride.

I guess it would be unusual but not impossible – have you tried the Blackmagic Drive Speed Test utility ? Its free from the App store but you should also have it with the software that came with your BM Card. Might be worth having a look at what the read/write speed of that drive is doing compared with ProRes HQ requirements.
A single internal drive can struggle with more than a couple of streams of ProRes, especially HQ. Is it a 7200 RPM drive ?best wishes

I would have thought your system easily exceeds that which FCP requires. Although it is not accelerated by CUDA that is a pretty hefty GPU so I would have thought that would be fine, at least I am not aware of any specific issues with that card.
You were quite right to use a single card as FCP and other things like Color don’t like having 2 cards installed.I wonder if the bottleneck is in your storage, this would be among the first places to look usually. ProRes HQ can be slightly more demanding on drives so what storage are you using and how is it connected ? Are you trying to playback multiple streams of media ?
If you have not done so already It might even be worth doing a simple prefs trash Digital Rebellion’s Prefs manager is a good way to go although you do tend to get some slightly odder behaviour than simple drop frames if it is that but nothing to lose.

.mov is a container rather than a codec, my reason for asking is that the behaviour you describe is often to be found when people try to edit
H264 files in FCP. FCP prefers files to be ProRes however native DV files are OK if thats what you have.
You can check by either opening one of the files in Quicktime and clicking on “Show Movie Inspector” or in FCP if you look at the browser and move along until you see the column “compressor” That will tell you what type of .mov you have.
If they are H264 then thats the likely cause, if not let us know what they are and maybe can suggest further.Thanks

I use Screenflow for this. I am not familiar with Camtasia so cant comment on any comparison.
But Screnflow works well and there is a free demo.

Straight colour correction should translate but certainly if you had used secondary then that would not come across. The only things that don’t translate are Symphony only features. Like Shane says the extra audio tracks or secondary CC are the obvious ones that come to mind.
There may be the other odd thing but thats about it and there is not usually any issue in actually reading the project.best wishes
