thats a sexy looking computer.. I probably will never need a puter with that much potential horsepower but I want one.
Great to see apple listening. Not swinging for the fences and whiffing (the traschcan), and just giving us something that works in a tried and trusted package.

FB is horrible.
All I see on there regarding NLE’s is.. “whats better ? Mac or PC?”
questions like , “my computer wont turn on, halp!?” etc.
When X has a significant update with some new features I’m sure this place will be popping again.

Its funny because I dont really rememeber a huge pressence here ver. It was always the usual suspects with a few random people chiming in every one in a while.
i think its simply because theres nothing to really talk about via X right now. Most of the current threads arent even about X and really theres not much to debate. You use the NLE you use at this point. There all capable.

had a dig at it this morning. Super snappy performance in all the modes with some Alexa footage.
My favorite new thing is that button on the record monitor that basically turns a bin of clips into a string-out w/o having to do anything. Its just playing your clips in a bin in a row but i thought was pretty slick.
Not sure how much id use the cut page as opposed to the edit one but cool option for people who want X inside of Davinci.
At the end of the day great piece of software – not going to drop Avid and Premiere for it just though personally.

Id say at this point of the game FCPX has to do something huge to gain any more traction.
Its been in limbo a little too long with the last innovative feature being roles/ lanes – things have seemed pretty flat in regards to development, especially since all the other NLES are moving at an insane pace of development these days…even Premiere which is the least fun to use for me is at least trying out new things.
Davinci is looking good, kind of the best of all words with Premiere/ FCPX looking interface and Avid style trimming.

Avid hasnt has t rally play catch up in this regard IMO. The latest iteration of the software (2018.12) handles all modern codecs, has enhanced multicam, 16k + custom resolutions – background rendering/saving/ and transcoding that doesnt pause when you work and a really slick one button proxy system.
In the last two years theyve basically been releasing updates once a month and bug fixes biweekly.
It was severely lagging behind in UI, and it continues to lag behind in FX handling and Color but performance with modern workflows has never been an issue for Media Composer and it has the most robust toolset for actual timeline editing.

looks pretty good to me. As a long time Avid user – whose been lampooned on PPRO for the last couple years – I love this. The interface in Avid has needed an overhaul for a while and was one of the things holding it back from new audiences.
Looks like they struck a balance of new “look” (flatter”) and familiarity while adding in all the tabbing and is a great foundation for them to build on.
They’ve been on a developmental roll the last two years, adding in lots of stuff weve been asking for for decades and cant wait to see where they take it.

I dont think schools are playing a huge role in the bigger picture when its comes to X’s adoption.
At least here in Hollywood – X is still a bad word – most people heard it was a debacle in 2011 and simply never looked again. Not one editor I talk to uses it besides myself and the people that I see post here. Ive worked at networks, agencies, trailer houses, and commercial houses. Not one person Ive brought it up to cares. I try to bring it up to every new person I meet as an editor. “oh -have you messed with X at all?” “Nope!” “Never!” Why?!” Are the responses I get.
That said – If I was a teacher – Id teach Avid because if you are working for someone else – in my experience – Avid gigs are higher paid than Premiere ones. Id also be pushing my students to want the top end gigs and lets face it – those are still Avid around these parts. I certainly wouldnt teach them X and push them out into a world where Jobs simply dont exist.

Yes and No.
NO, because those jobs in the highest levels of the industry where I live dont exist, so somewhat incapable. But YES in the sense that X isnt going to hold you back from producing content at the highest levels. There are just simply no jobs for it here so unless you re making your own way – its simply not an option.

If it was going to happen, it would of by now. 8 years in – traction in Hollywood is next to nil. No fault to FCPX besides its reputation but yea – nada.
