Hello Roland! Thank you for the clarification. I agree with everything you have provided – and have found all of your examples to be accurate – except the text with mouse down drag … although the anchor point is not at the ‘true’ bottom, it is not centered vertically either. The position seems to vary based on font selection/size. Does your AE give you a true vertical center when you drag a text box? My ‘baseline’ setting is ‘0’ and my ‘leading’ is set to ‘auto’ if that helps at all.

I appreciate all the time you have provided on this annoying (at least to me) issue. Thank you!

Hello Roland. Thank you for your response. Perhaps I am not understanding what you are suggesting but I’m not trying to align a number of layers. What I am trying to do is have the anchor points appear in the correct place within the text layer from inception. For example, if I add a graphic, photo, or movie clip to AE, the anchor points are always center/center. However, when I launch a new text layer, the anchor points are center/bottom. All the documentation I have read refers to the “default” for AE for text boxes as center/center. Is there a way to restore the default? (I really don’t know what I did to change it.)

Hello! When you communicated your fix for this problem, you didn’t mention what setting you used to “set” the baseline to ensure that the anchor point is vertically centered. I assumed ‘0’ would be the correct setting but my text layer is doing what you originally described (anchor point defaults to bottom) and my Baseline is (and already was) set at ‘0’. Could you please elaborate? I have tried everything I can think of to get the default back to what Adobe says is normal (center, center) but to no avail.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello Dave! Please be patient with me … I have tried to understand the Source Text in this preset but I can find no ‘Property’ to look at. Under the layer it does list Source Text but there is nothing under R-click or anywhere else to drill down. In the timeline there are the seven keyframes I mentioned in my previous post. Where should I be looking and what should I be looking for?

I have already researched the help menu which is why I am turning to this forum for help (nothing I have found explains the circumstances with this preset). I may be missing something but most text presets use the text I have typed into the text box. This particular preset replaces the text (with the words Front/Back) and creates seven ‘hold’ keyframes which – over 45 frames – switches, by row, the word Front with the word Back. Although I could change the text box for EACH of the 45 frames, this would make no sense (presets are supposed to SAVE time!). My question is what am I missing here?

Thanks Dave! I had already tried that but the preset changes the text layer to five rows of ‘Front’ and five rows of ‘Back’ with 45 frames of single frame iterations of change between the word Front and the word Back (row by row). When I change the first frame text to what I want and then move to the second frame it changes back to the preset text (‘Front’). Thoughts?
