Hi Kalleheikki, thanks for the help. It’s the second one with just red black and white/transparent pixels, nothing else.

Thanks offer the offer Al, I think we are on different sides of the Atlantic though. I went ahead with the MixPre and managed to pick it up for £450, not as cheap as I hoped but still more than half what the newer one is. I’ll see how I do and if I really run into limitations I’ll just have to save up for the MixPre-D. Thanks for all the advice guys.

Thanks for the link I’ve not checked this one out yet, I’ll have a look. Dose seem to be a good budget way to get a little SD 2 channel mixer and recorder together.

Yes I’ve come across a few threads about the MixPre D and the Marantz now. There’s a chap who makes up the cables, I think he’s US side of the pond, I found another I think here in the UK too. The MixPre D is going to be between 2 or 3 times the money of the MixPre for me though. I’ll have a closer look at the features but I’ve yet to hear anything for my use that’ll sway me towards the MixPre D if I can get similar audio performance and reliability out of the older model.

  • Very nice, love the acoustic sculpting on the ends. It’s a shame you can’t open it up and mount whatever mics inside. similar to the life sized rubber head on a stick or rubber ears on a stick but not as funky looking, still though not too stealthy and certainly not a good weight to space, hike up the side of a mountain, idea. I have always loved trying every weird microphone in the shop, I even had one dedicated soundman swallow a mic and yak it back up once, though I should say it wasn’t my idea, he was under no duress. But this time round it’s all about the weight and size so I’m aiming to be using my own head as the mic stand, tricky though that may be.

For now my choices as far as I know are the OKM’s or the cheaper and by most reports just as good Roland CS-10EM or making a pair from the little Primo EM172’s. I’m leaning towards the Primos though I’m still unclear if they will perform well for what I need, can’t get anyone on the phone there.

I’ve seen them sealed in little plastic balls and sunk under water, attached to a stethoscope, inside instruments and tools and mounted in many other fun and curious ways. As there so cheap and homemade it may also be a good experiment in collecting unusual bits of noise in the future. Like a little crash mic.

SO I think someone has solved it for me. I found in the end the problem was only on my PC. Then I found that JRiver Media player played the exported clips fine unlike everything else so I went into Nvidia control Panel under Video/Adjust video colour settings, here it was set by default to “video player settings” and I changed it to “Nvidia settings”. Then under Advanced/Dinamic range I changed it from 16-235 to the full 0-255 and fingers crossed all seems to be fine now. Apart from of course having to go back and remove the black crushing grade I have just done over the top of the old one, but that I shall do gladly if it will just play ball from now on, or at lest for a while.

Thanks for the heads up on VLC that’s good to know. I found that my old mac opened it so I think he must of bee responsible too and I put it out of FCP in a Tiff sequence to try and get the best shot at cleaning it up so I never did know what it was or why it was just a file but Gspot sound like a good little app to have too. All the best.

On both my key boards the grave key is situated where people keep describing the tilda key, top left side above the Tab and below the escape key. The key with the tilda symbol also has the hash mark and is situated middle left next to the return key.

But both these keys do nothing in Premier Pro CC for me. The full screen is the apostrophe/@ key (‘@). This is why I could not find it. It’s very odd that I seem to have a different key for this. I found it by looking under the window menu and the third option down is “full frame” which I now know is full screen and next to it it has the keyboard short cut, (Shift+’)

Ok I found it . It’s apostrophe/@ key next to the tilda key. For anyone who ends up here in the future that’s what works on my Windows 8.1 PC and Premier Pro CC.

unfortunately not. not tilda , tilda and shift , tilda and control. All do nothing. I just tried a different key board and same problem.
