A little tip to be able to “join” the clips – rather than importing the cuts straight in to the Media pool from the Scene Detect page, save the edl you’ve just created and exit. Use the “Split and to Media Pool” option on your footage and choose your saved edl, and now you can join and split clips as you grade.

They shouldn’t be changing keyboard shortcuts under a legacy option though, it’s a bizarre decision.

  • I’ve had this problem before and as far as I know it’s a problem with Quicktime player. Open a file in QT player and VLC and see which one is closest to your Resolve GUI – it’s always VLC as QT player desaturates the image (check Youtube and Vimeo and you should get the same result). Now, unfortunately VLC doesn’t play Prores 4444, but it does show that you shouldn’t put any trust in to the image that QT player is showing you.

  • Thanks Joseph, it looks like we might have to fit both cards in if we’re going to do this then!
I’m aware of the drawbacks of the plasma as I’ve graded on one for a few years, which is why I want to keep the OLED as my primary grading monitor. I think we’ll have to make do with what we can in our budget.
I hadn’t heard of the Penta monitors before, Margus, do you grade on one?

  • Thanks Joseph, that’s the exact set up we’re looking at. HDMI sounds like a good option, but there’s an added complication that the suite might be used as a Smoke Mac suite. I know nothing about Smoke, can it output through the HDMI of the Decklink card?

Cheers Dan, that sounds good, I’ll let you know when I’m in Soho next, might be the end of the week.

You need to try make sure the grade in the master session is correct, if as another poster said, the grade seems to pop in then grab a still of the correct grade for the event and reapply it. You might then have to adjust and dynamics if you have any. You mention that some of your clips were minutes long, do you need all the material in your master session? If you do then you’ll need to track shapes through the whole clip anyway, if you don’t need all the material it might be best to rebuild the project with handles rather than all the material.
    Hope that helps!

    Hi Greg,
The only way to sort this out is, as you mentioned, to jump to the master session and make sure you track a window through the whole shot.

    Hi,
Make sure ‘Use Prefix, suffix, No.of Digits from Source’ is selected on the render page, and set the ‘Source Directory Preserve Level’ to 1 (depending on the folder structure) and Render ‘Source’.
That should be all you need. Try it out on one shot and check if you need another directory level.

    Hope that helps.

Try holding ‘Command’ and press the ‘page up’ and ‘page down’ buttons to toggle between A and C mode. That should do it.
