Thanks Todd for the reply. I agree, I don’t shoot “auto” for most everything else but have always appreciated auto ISO when shooting in rapidly changing lightening conditions. It’s strange they include “auto iris” and “auto white balance” (which I think you should NEVER shoot with!) but no auto ISO. I know the word “auto” is a bad word in the world of video but some of the features make life a lot easier in certain situations. The Dual Pixel Auto Focus of the C200 is a thing of beauty! After using it, I don’t know how I lived without it. I love to use it to gain quick, accurate focus, and then switch to one-touch autofocus for manual control. The DPAF face-detection feature is a dream come true when shooting interviews! I can shoot very shallow and the focus stays exactly on the interviewee’s face no matter how much they move.

Thanks Aaron for the information! Very helpful. The Canon RAW processing is far too many steps for us Windows users.

    1. Process RAW files via Canon software and export .DPX sequence
    2. Import .DPX sequence into FFMPEG
    3. Export another .DPX sequence from FFMPEG
    4. Import FFMPEG .DPX sequence into Vegas for editing

As Terry said, that process is NOT feasible if the project has many clips and is still too time consuming even if it doesn’t. There’s not enough time in the day to wait for all of the processing of the files just to GET them into Vegas for editing. I’ll be sticking to editing the .CRM files in Resolve until either Canon or Magix come up with a better solution for Windows users. Only downside is we can’t export full 4096 x 2160 from the free version of Resolve.

Thanks Terry. I’ll contact Canon as well and put in the request, however, just like Macro said, this is as much of a Magix issue as it is a Canon issue. If Premiere and Resolve can handle the export formats from the Canon software (Resolve handles the native .CRW files!), there is NO reason why Vegas Pro shouldn’t either. Regarding the .DPX file sequence from the Canon software, there obviously is something different with these that Vegas can’t recognize. I’m not techie enough to figure it out but that is obviously more of a Canon issue than a Magix issue…but again, Premiere can read them, Vegas can’t. My guess is that Davinci will open up all of the RAW processing in Resolve for the .CRW that they have for Blackmagic RAW video files (not that the Canon software offers much in terms of RAW file editing!) before Canon or Magix do anything about the issue.

Thanks Terry for posting the DPX files. Yep, Vegas can’t handle the new DPX render from the Canon Cinema Raw Development software. That is really the only option if you’re a PC user. Frustrating!

Alex, you’re not the only one as Vegas Pro 14 handles files so much better than Vegas Pro15 on my system as well. Vegas 15 struggles with 4K 60fps MP4 files (to even preview let alone edit) from my c200 while VP14 handles them perfectly. VP15 struggles to preview even an 1080p HD clip with effects. The VP15 timeline lags heavily when editing. I still am editing in VP14 due to the lack of speed in VP15. The specs of my system should easily handle 4K files in VP15:

    • Processor: Core i7-5930K 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor
    • Graphics Card: Radeon R9 390 8GB
    • RAM: 32GB DDR4
    • Hard Drive: Videos files are edited from 512GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive

    Anyone else have a solve?

Thanks Terry for the upload. At least you’re experiencing the same issues I am as a Windows user. I wish Windows had a ProRes plugin that would allow export to the ProRes 4444 format. I am currently using the “Resolve to color correct—>render to UHD file–>Vegas to edit” workflow when I shoot RAW but as you said, it’s too bad this removes alot of the advantages of the RAW file. The final image does look better compared to the 4K MP4 (albeit the 4K MP4 still looks amazing), but with the workflow time and the sheer size of the RAW files and the fact that the workflow loses most of the advantages of the actual RAW file, I shoot mainly 4K MP4 now until (and hopefully) Vegas creates the plugin that will allow the Canon RAW .CRM files to work directly in Vegas. If Resolve can currently read them, there’s no reason all other high end NLE’s shouldn’t be able to as well. At the minimum, I hope Resolve creates the ability to fully edit the Canon RAW file prior to rendering to a format Vegas can open.

  • I know you’re asking about the C100 mk II, but I just upgraded from a 5D Mark III to the new Canon C200 and as Water said, once you make the upgrade to a cinema camera, you’ll never look back to the DSLR for video. I loved my 5DMIII and shot a lot of great stuff with it but also used Magic Lantern to make it much more usable as a video camera. That DP auto focus on the C200 is amazing. The touch screen focus is also something I use a lot more than I thought I would. The build in ND filters are so convenient shooting outside and built in XLR inputs make recording professional audio so much easier than having to bring my Zoom H5 everywhere I go. The C200 makes shooting video so much easier for me, however, the image that it producers kicks the crap out of anything you’ll get from your 5D Mark III, even if you’re shooting with Magic Lantern RAW. The Cinema RAW Lite feature is fantastic as well, although the workflow is still a bit cumbersome and the file sizes are HUGE (not to mention expensive…30 minutes of video on a 256GB car).

Marco, have you tried to import a .dpx image sequence into Vegas Pro 14 or 15? I recorded my first Canon RAW Lite files from my Canon C200 last night and tried to import the .dpx sequence rendered out from the Canon RAW software. Both Vegas Pro 14 and 15 would not recognize the files…? I rendered out two versions and neither would work.
