I believe that I am in the same boat. I edit with FCP and would like to know how if you shoot native HD how would you deliver an SD copy on DVD? I currently shoot SD with DSR250’s but would like to move away from tape based recording.

Thank you Shane. I have watched the podcast and found it to be very informative. Do you have any recommendations between the 200a and the 170? I am moving from a tape based editing system and the workflow is a little intimidating.

Do I just insert the card and drag the files over to an external hard drive or do I need to use a Panasonic application to transfer the files?

I am not familiar with this. What cameras record on these type of cards?

The only thing that troubles me about P2 is the number of cards I would need for an all day 2 camera shoot. Those little guys are expensive. I also looked at the Sony NXCAM and although the cards are less expensive, the MPEG format that is used when shooting SD needs to be transcoded before it is imported into FCP.

Compared to the dsr250 does the picture on the HPX170 comparable in SD ?

I asked the person in charge of the seminar and they where not sure if the room had a mixer to get a feed from and they only have one hand-held wireless microphone.
I plan on putting a wireless on the presenter and will decide whether we pass around the wireless microphone that I have that will go directly into the camera and not over the PA or just put a microphone on a stand. The people will probably be tapping the hand-held that I give them because they will not hear it over the PA system.

That issue had crossed my mind regarding archiving. I am so used to taking the DV/DVCAM tape and putting it on the shelf and relying on it being there and with solid state cards being so expensive. It must be kind of scary recording over the original and if something happens to your external hard drive, your screwed.

I guess I want to get away from tape based recording so I don’t spend so much time loading footage. But, I also don’t want to have to transcode every bit of footage that I shoot. Also, my cameras are getting old and would like to replace them in the near future.

Why? Are there new camcorders or a new FCP coming out on Wednesday?
