If I shoot 720/24pn then that would give me only 4 hours with 2 64 gb cards and I was only planning on buying 2 cards. My other option was the Sony HXR-NX5U because the cards are less expensive but I have heard that the SD footage is recorded in MPEG 2. I would need to transcode the footage in order to edit in FCP.

I was trying to save space of the P2 cards by shooting SD. I normally shoot 6 hours of footage in 1 day.

SD. I am trying to replace some aging cameras and cutting down on load time. I have a client that has me locked into for the next couple of years to record all day seminars. I normally shoot with two cameras.

I was a little concerned with the loading time aspect. If I do decide to shoot in the SD mode. Is the loadtime the same as HD? 2.5 times realtime?

How long does it take to import footage?

I understand that you can record SD on the P2 cards.

I would have to say in my situation that P 2 would be the best choice because most of the work that I do which is seminars, meetings and dance recitals. The last meeting I recorded three cameras with a total of six hours per camera.

Wow! So, where is time savings? I would move more towards P2 since it transfers one minute per gig. Right?

How much time do you think it takes to import a file from the Sony camera? I suppose it depends on the speed of the machine and how big the file is? Could approximate given a 20 gb file porting into an iMac?

Thank you for the post. So, when you ingest and edit, you edit in HD and then when you output the file from the timeline is when the program becomes SD. Do you know how Canon’s files import into FCP? Also, the SD DVD will either have a center cut or a letter-box?
