Looking to see if anyone ever solved this – my problem is identical. Is there a template for this if it’s not possible in R11.5? Thanks

I’m not sure what dimensions DVCPro shoots in (either 960×720 or 1280×720). In Photoshop, readjust the size of the image to match the correct dimensions and resize everything. There is no reason for a file with dimensions/filesize that large.

Sometimes attaching the layer to a null (layer->new->null object) and controlling its position instead works out better. A null object is basically an invisible element that helps make harnessing visible elements easier.
Your other option is to create a camera and manipulate its position, and that’s also controllable by a null object (if you want to control the camera by a null object and move in z-space, don’t forget to toggle the null to 3D mode).

You would film each actor with his/her corresponding wall. Then, in a program like After Effects, you would want to draw a mask around the back of each walkoing character to introduce the new wall.
Just masking and more masking. This task doesn’t sound too difficult though. Just takes some time.

There’s a few options:
Depending on the difference in luminance between your characters and the background, try a luma mask.
Autotracing, which I know next to nothing about but I know exists. Probably won’t work how you want it to.
Your best bet is to take a little time on this one and mask it by hand. It’s not glamorous but it gets the job done.

Would it be just as efficient to create a target cam, or is there something more beneficial to making a null from scratch? Also, where do I find that steadycam plugin/how much does it cost?
