  • Yeah, I’ve filed multiple bug reports with BMD, submitted Log files and even given them a project where they can easily reproduce the problem, but I’m surprised that other are not more frustrated by this.

This is new behavior for me, I’m used to the system being quite stable with a crash maybe once every two weeks even when using a combination of OFX and some optical flow retiming and TNR.

This application vaporizing behavior is new and very frustrating to say the least. I can work around it by turning off optical flow retiming and avoiding OFX for now, but thats not a real solution. Its hard for me to pin point exactly what has changed but I can say that its not specific to hardware since I”m seeing it across two systems.

My guess is that its related to Resolve 11.3, or Mac OS 10.10.3 (and accompanying D700 drivers) or a combination of the two.

The frustrating thing is that this configuration is not exactly an obscure one, its the single most common setup and I would assume it would be the primary testing platform for BMD.

Does the extra ethernet port on the sonnet box provide anything useful? Not sure how one would use it.

Can you run two ethernet cables to the switch and do port trunking to get more bandwidth? Seems like it would be hard to saturate even one line of 10GBs ethernet although I guess technically TB2 does 20GB but I thought that just meant 10GBs each way.

So why the second ethernet port on these sonnet boxes? Are they better than the promise sanlink2?

Yes I have experienced this on multiple machines in v10 and v11.

I have no idea why this is the case or any solution. Even over the SDI, I find the same thing. I always get stutter free playback from the color page but frequently drop frames in the edit page even when bandwidth and CPU/GPU are doing fine.

I’m really looking for something that backs up to the cloud, not local storage.

Also and perhaps just as important is that in the past when I have had time machine turned on I find it frustrating that every disk I attach it is always asking if I want to use it with time machine.

    Thanks though!

Ha, always a pleasure Bob, as I think you may actually know, I’ve use all sorts of shared storage over the last 10-15 years… Unity, Commandsoft, Facilis, etc, you name it. All told my guess is that I’ve been responsible for the purchase of a few hundred thousand dollars of shared storage at various facilities, so I’ve done my part supporting post production shared storage makers and integrators.

However at the moment I just want to know if the new Mac Mini has two Thunderbolt 2 buses 🙂

    Thanks

    Bob and other knowledgeable folks:

Are the two Thunderbolt 2 ports on the new Mac Mini’s on separate buses? Does it matter? It seems like for the new Mac Mini to act as an efficient server you would want the thunderbolt 2 storage (Areca or Pegasus) and your 10G ethernet adapter (Promise Sanlink2) on separate Buses.

If these Thunderbolt 2 ports are on the same bus, can one get better performance by bumping up the the entry level trash can?

    Proposed setup:
new Mac mini OR entry level trashcan
    Sanlink2 thunderbolt to 10G adapters
    Netgear 10G switch
    Areca or Promise thunderbolt2 storage.

I would clean up the project removing and unused media and timelines, then export the project as a DRP manually and include LUTs, stills, etc. and use “Resolve Collect” to media manage the media. Reopen the project, connect to the newly media managed media, save and archive to spinning disks or LTO.

Painful, but I have found exporting to DRP much more reliable than manually copying folders from the database.

Chris I think you may be dealing with a different issue than others. I believe the thin green and pink lines are the result of a hardware issue, this was much discussed on the BMD forum and both myself and others were able to solve the problem completely by swapping out the machine.

I would suggest replacing the machine.
