Yes, to my knowledge. Not a problem if they cut with FCP.
A pain if they cut with Avid, as I believe Avid uses the MXFs directly while Resolve cannot.

If by “raw” you mean the re-wrapped Quicktimes that FCP produces, the answer is yes.
It doesn’t read the MXFs straight off the camera.

Nothing you can do, man. It’s the wild west out there.

I guess my question is why are you expecting any sort of consistency between how apps display video?
It’s always been all over the place. Only way in my experience to look at video is out a card meant for it (AJA, BM, etc).
Just my thoughts, not trying to be a pain.

I was questioning the use of the word “specs”. Not questioning that they exist, or that they are out there, or that they are feature incomplete. I was a Red owner for 2 years, I know the drill.
I think the specs of the hardware are locked. Thats what I was talking about.
In addition, my experience is that the file format is, at this point, relatively set in stone as well. From a 3rd party, “is this software going to read this 5K r3d?” standpoint as well.
Lots of stuff is up in the air with them, but I think those points are relatively locked down.

[Kris Anderson] “Given that final specs for the Epic are still to be locked in by RED”
They are? There’s an awful lot of Epic jobs going on in Los Angeles right now. That’s super scary if you know this to be true.

[Jonathon Lee] “Since some Nvidia crds support open CL is it better to run Nvidia GPU’s as open CL?”
I had a great 10 minutes with Rohit at NAB talking about a lot of v8 stuff.
One of the things he mentioned is that OpenCL is not as capable as CUDA, and performance in general will not be quite as good as what we’re used to with CUDA.
Rohit, please chime in if I heard it wrong.

I’d be dumbfounded if FCPX didn’t have XML out. There’s too many 3rd party solutions that require that.
I find it weird that Randy Ubillios, the man who INVENTED Premiere and FCP, who has probably done nothing but eat, drink, and sleep NLE technicalities for TWENTY years sat on stage to show everybody his new baby, and everybody assumes he forgot the simplest stuff just because it was left out of the presentation. I like everybody else have more questions than answers after what I saw, but like my clients assume I can get my job done right because of my track record, I’ll give Randy Ubillios and the rest of the FCP team the benefit of the doubt.
If the application is building timelines “trackless” internally, then I would expect that any XML output would be one “track” only. That’s not the end of the world at all, in my book. It keeps the organizational concept of multiple tracks (usually very messy) on the editors plate only, and gives the rest of us a nice, easy to digest timeline.
This comment is not directed at any of the above posters, it’s just more of a general comment after reading a lot of different blogs and such after the presentation.

It won’t be higher than 65IRE or lower than 10IRE on the scopes without a LUT, I can tell you that.

I don’t think the looks it provides have much to do with what even music video colorists are asked to do regularly, but I’m glad it’s there and it’s not unheard of for what eventually turns out to be a hit music video to have a crazy look, and then everybody after wants the same thing. All about trends.
What I *have* found that Davinci makes easy and is a popular look these days is clipping the lows up from the bottom using the clip sliders, and then tinting those blacks/greys in another node. See Kanye West’s latest for an example of that. Also seen it in some high-end commercials as well.
