Richard,
Yes Blue ray does answer a lot of questions and is on our Mac Pro Upgrade list this month…(now that it doesn’t look like Apple is going to cut prices or announce anything not iPhone)
But my struggle is, do I put the blue ray in the Mac Pro or in an external enclosure so I can share it with all my Macs…. and take on location..

Jeremy, I constantly wonder how much “sense” it makes to save camera and edit footage.
The client expects it, but does not want to store his camera tapes properly if at all or pay you a vault charge….. “what’s that”
I have spent the last 2 days searching thru 15 hard drives of 200 to 500gb for a clients master TV project from 18 months ago. I have found the master edit project file but no master quicktime and I usually back up twice to two HD. He wants to replace one shot out of 7 in his commercial . I will still have to drive 3 hours, set up lights and shoot, drive back and edit. If I can find the master quicktime I just have to digitize and encode one 5 second shot and his new logos….. 2 days searching and the original shoot was less than a half day plus drive time….. And I consider myself pretty organized…..
I just should have said that is a new shoot… period…. What’s the sense in the search, they wont pay for it.

Have you done a search? There is tons of discussion on this point… and it all comes down to dollars..

Chris,
I don’t know about your T1 connection, but on my WOW cable hook up, using my 2.4 MacBook Pro (4gb ram) it did not choke at all,,, and I had it repeating itself for a couple hours at 1,700kbps..
And I expected it to choke… not at all ,,,, that is what is amazing……. at that grade level…
And yes distribution is the name of this game,,, any where in the world,, when they want to view it…
at full screen HD………

I forgot to mention that they will stream your HD too,,,, for FREE…

June 10, 2008 at 7:13 pm in reply to: 20TB eSATA disk array, flexible, cheap, expandable – But will it work?Search this forum for raids and Mr Bob Zelin, or just track the man down….. blood hounds should work 😉
Bob posted in a raids posting (1-2 months ago) that he discovered at NAB some guys that had a poor mans shared area network like you are needing. It used a network switch and gigabit network cards, if I recall correctly and a dedicated server Mac… He was very excited about it, to the point he was setting one up for himself.
So I would like to know if he is still excited about it or if the new tech just flamed out…

Chris,
Nice find, thank you… I will have to get a second job to pay for it but….. 🙂
It is a little more than my budget, but it is a lot more tech to…
It will make me think twice before I crawl into the basement workshop for a long weekend to try to save 200 bucks…
Thanks for the bookmark..

“Cessna Aircraft Company…so, yes…we have some great machine shop guys. ”
Yep your machine shop SMOKES my basement….. Talk about dream gear……
If your guys can make it out of high grade steel, then you would be able to thread a thumb screw on the far left side to tighten down and take the wobble out…
If I had your machine shop,,,, yep,,, I think I would build myself a spacecraft,,, a real one….

The question is, Does your client need to play the drives or just store them? How sophisticated is your client?
There is a great sata plug-n-play for bare drives available that takes 3.5 and the 2.5 inch drives. They seem to average about 50 bucks and you just plug in the bare drive. Plug in the bare drive/ format/ load with project/ unplug/ store or ship… Why buy power supplies, enclosures and connections that you will not use? I think I have seen 2 versions. I will be buying one soon.

Steven, if you have dedicated machine shop guys, the fix should be simple..
There is a metal plate that the viewfinder slides onto. Just have your machine shop guys clone that plate but make it an inch-n-half longer to the left. I plan on making it out of flat aluminum stock.
If your machine shop guys can make it. I am sure they have better machines than my basement does. Should I wait and buy a copy off of you and your guys?
