I’m still curious how to do this with expressions, but we found this plug-in that can achieve a similar effect to what you posted…

You can put multiple rectangles within one shape layer and then control the scaling of the x and y dimensions and how they effect one another. So far it’s doing the trick for what I was trying to accomplish!

I unfortunately don’t have an answer for you, but am trying to do this exact same thing. I can’t figure out how to write the expression either….just following this in case you get a reply!

Thanks for being polite. I am going to try doing that, but I guess I have to back everything up thoroughly before doing so. I never realized or was taught (I recently got a Master’s degree in film) that I needed to reformat my drives. It turns out that all of them are formatted that way, but I’ve never had any troubles in the past. I have no idea if it’s worth it to try to reformat all of them or not…

I hope this isn’t a completely ridiculous question, but is it very possibly because the drive is formatted FAT32? I never reformatted the drive when I got it (mistake), and now I have a bunch of files on it that I can’t afford to lose. Should I attempt to move everything to another drive, reformat it, then put them back on the drive?

I tried trashing the preferences already. Haven’t tried repairing the permissions yet; I’ll do that now. It seems to recognize the files because it will reconnect manually with the “matched reel” setting unchecked, but it will not do it in batches…

Sorry, I guess I didn’t specify that. I haven’t disconnected with FCP open. It is after I close FCP and disconnect that drive that the problem is happening. The strange thing is that all of the files are located in the same folder on the drive, yet only some go offline once FCP is re-opened.
