Back in the day we always online at 1:1 – its SD so not that big really. Lately i have been bringing in all my DV at 1:1 – i don’t have the option for digitizing at DNX 175 coming in from my DV Deck.

Its been awhile since I have worked with SD footage so not exactly sure of workflow to get it up to HD. These days we finish at DNX175 – but isn’t that an HD codec?

I think in the end we are looking at 80hours of Mini DV. and another 20-30 hours of XAVC footage from a Sony F5 and Sony FS7.

I am guessing i will either need to rent a good DV deck and a either rent or purchase a Terranex or Aja box. OR just ship all the tapes out and have another post house deal with the digitizing/upscaling.

Just looking to get the SD material into the system in the cleanest way possible so when we go to finishing its not a total shit show.

    thx again.

    Thanks Shane!

Question is do I digitize each tape through the Aja/terranex as HD. Or do i digitize at 1:1 via my little FireWire 400 miniDv deck and then up scale the final edit?

    Thanks for the guidance!

March 8, 2011 at 6:35 pm in reply to: XDCAM HD – FCP INGEST from external drive

    Thanks for the response.

the folders on my drive here have MXF format in the ‘video’ folder. I thought that was XDCAM format?

also – the DVCPRO HD footage that was ingested via log and transfer does not playback in my timeline. no red bar just won’t go out through my MATROX MINI. I tried adjusting the settings in the log and transfer preferences to pro res but its still just ingesting as DVCPRO HD.

I have a call into the production company but the shooter was a day person in alaska so there is a bit of delay in communication.

    thanks again

October 22, 2008 at 2:10 pm in reply to: Macbook Pro HD Editing

I am doing a project in DVCPRO HD 720p60. I digitized from a 1400A via firewire using my macbook pro (core duo 2.8; 4gig ram) to a glyph drive via FW800.

worked beautifully. I can playback and edit without any dropped frames at all – even shuttling. I do not have any extra hardware.

When i work on my Mac Pro – i use the intensity pro to a HD monitor via HDMI – have not fully tested out this system yet though as i am just getting going.

    good luck

Thanks for you answers. A version of the first work around did end up working.

It was essential for me to keep the “timecode” attached to the audio – in order to sync with the TC slate on camera.

just creating a new project did not work. i had to change the easy setup to NTSC DV @ 24fps. then load a piece of non-60p footage in the viewer in order to change the viewer timebase – i loaded a DV NTSC clip. then i imported the audio files. they then would play back at 24fps.

I then dragged them over to my 720p60 project and did my dailies sync.

what a headache. i miss the avid actually giving you obtions with the material you import. you can select what frame rate you like to import audio in the avid.

maybe digital heaven can hook this up.

    thanks all
