There is a way to reveal certain perameters but not with one shortcut. But you can do it all with the keyboard and never touch the mouse.

For example If I want to show all path perameters all you have to do is hit Control+F that will move your cursor into the search field then just start typing “path” hit enter and all paths will open in that shape layer. You can do this with almost all perameters “color” “stroke” “end or start” for trim paths.

go crazy. The things you cant do is jump from one group to another with keyboard commands. At least I have not found it.

Ohhhh got it… you have to create a solid black and choose that as your enviorment.

Hello i just ran into this same issue. can you show me with screen shots how you achived a pitch dark scene?

    Thank you.

  • No perfectly understandable i think i did not clarify what i meant to say. I dont want to use the trackpad because its an extra that i don’t need to carry around. I move from station to station. When i work with clients sometimes i work on their station other times i work on mine at their studio. So that means sometimes they have wireless keyboards other times they have wired keyboards. I don’t want to carry around a trackpad everywhere I go… plus a trackpad on a wire long keyooard would require me to move my hand almost identical distance as to reach a mouse.

I do find it easier to edit on my macbook because of the trackpad placement…. but editing on macbook keyboard is not the most comfortable heat. hard edge strain….

I am in a simple solution to selecting connected clips with the keyboard so that I don’t have to move my hand off the keyboard. I find I can do quick a lot without a mouse. I actually did not mention this but I dont even use a mouse i use a waoom tablet. Reason for the wacom is I do lots of graphics, photoshop and after effects and prefer it over a mouse. I did find a cool plugin “Final Cat Pro” that I think is headed in the right direction but not quite what I am looking for.

Thanks for all suggestions. I will keep looking for a solution or await one form Apple.

yes up and down will take you form edit to edit but it will not acknowledge connected clips I am also attempting to find a solution that will take me from edit point to edit point on any “track” connected clip or main story line.

But I have yet to find a solution for this. Any time i keep my hands off the mouse is time saved in my mind.

    Still looking for solution.

  • I need connected clips because we have L3 . info bars and graphics that pop on screen so connected clips are not essential but .. 100% required.

This is our layout…. we have BG plate we have Host on green screen.
we have L3 that goes in and out, then we have story title that goes in and out…. then we have a side image of what the host is talking about. then we have our BUG… so that is 5 tracks that may be required all at the same time so connected clips are required. yes i can nest bg plate and host but sometimes we slide out the host to replace with asset sometimes we don’t… so having it on its own track is better…

Now yes i can select the clip with the mouse and some people say its as fast or faster but the thing is i like options and the option I use is not to use the mouse unless required.

When i edit on premiere i do use the mouse I use it when I make effect adjustments cropping placing but I always make my cut first with the keyboard never touching the mouse. Then I go back and make all my adjustments using the mouse moving sliders and such.

I just feel this is an easy fix if not one already available in avid you can jump from one edit point to the next on any track…. this would be a great solution for FCPX have a key that jumps form one edit point to another regardless of it being a connected clip or main storyline.

I dont think I am missing anything without ever using the mouse to make edits. I know there are times when I do have to use the mouse. I just dont want to have to use the mouse to do something I can do in another application and yes it is faster for me moving my hand from keyboard to mouse is time im not progressing in my edit.

I think after all these suggestions the problem still remains there is no way to select what “track” i want to perform an edit on without selecting with mouse.

    Thank you.

  • very nice i like saving short cut keys. yes still my goal is to never touch the mouse at all….. I am able to do this in premeire using the track selection feature…. i need to find solution for FCPX

  • yes this is the only thing that holds me back from using FCPX and this does not solve my problem I still have to select connected clips via mouse. in Premiere I can select any edit point without ever touching the mouse.

I have actually managed to work a full day with the batteries out of my mouse within premiere with no problem at all.

This is still what will keep me form working in FCPX my work is news so i need to edit as quickly as possible. This does help but the problem still stands.

I work on windows at work and would prefer FCPX at home but this problem still stands.

    Thanks for your help.
