It just happened to me. A friend told me a solution, and it worked. In this case, the first frame of the clip was corrupt and that is why it would’t play. The solution is import the mp4 to FCP and make a new sequence. Drag the file to it. FCP will say “general error” but you will be able to continue. Cut the first frame, again it will say “general error”. Render the clip from the timeline and it will work well. It happens to me with Videoblocks mp4 clips

  • I traced it with the pen tool. But I restarted the program and it went ok, so it could be a bug or something…. Thank you Darby!!

I had the same problem but with text, and the frame rate change solved my problem. Really thanks!!!!!!!!

  • Hello Alan, the HDV thing happened to me once, maybe the deck supports HDV but not the camera it was shot with. Why don’t you check with the person that rented you the camera, and ask them with what deck they have captured before? In my case I had to ask the owner of the camera to please capture the tapes for me.

    Good luck

  • Hello, this kind of video can be done with After Effects. I don’t know if with motion you can achieve things like this and I don’t think you can do this with Final Cut, but with AE you sure can, and you don’t need to be an expert to do that.

    Good luck!
