[Bill Davis] “(I’m probably overly sensitive to the whole “scoring” issue since I just returned 20 minutes ago from earning another Apple Certification – and I’m VERY mindful that the only score that matters in that testing system is what the testing system SAYS matters – not so much that I might have wanted them to think matters. ; )”
It doesn’t Bill. Not since Apple granted FCP Trainer status to a guy who set up networks for a living and had a total of 1 video edited in iMovie as his total video experience level. After that, Apple Certification no longer mattered, which is why I and so many others let ours go. Once you cheapen something, it’s hard to get it back… a lesson Apple could stand to learn, since “brand image” is so important to them and since they think of themselves as a premium product. As for Bentley, young iPhone users aren’t their demographic… but they could be someday after they develop the “Angry Video Editors” app or whatever hits big next… 🙂

I don’t think he did miss the point.
How about this point… to get good iPhone video, put $500 iPhones on a $15K motion rigs. Then hire a really expensive crew to get the video we’re all claiming is so amazing.

FWIW, this isn’t limited to CC. Using a legitimately owned copy of CS, I once had it mysteriously announce that my trial had expired. What trial… I bought it… I’m holding the discs in my hand with a serial number. Any attempt at reinstalling informed that I had already used all my installs. You know, maybe someday an installer could be smart enough to see that it’s the same machine, same hard drive ID, etc? Is that asking too much?
Under deadline, I had to pay another facility to use their suite, since Adobe couldn’t do anything when I called them.
Afterwards, Adobe… I mean India, came up with a bailing wire and duct tape solution that involved a secret key command that popped up a hidden window, to which they had me type in an answer to a challenge question. This tricks the CS suite into letting it launch. This wasn’t a permanent fix. More akin to placing a band-aid over cancer. It appears to look like a fix, but the underlying problem still exists.
Eventually I upgraded the CS suite to the last “real” version and got a new serial number and escaped this hell. Now, with CC, you can’t even do that…

[Steve Connor] “I honestly think people may be holding out a bit too much hope for the next version of Resolve.”
I think you’re thinking too literal. What has people’s attention is that R11 has accidentally done a lot of things better than FCP X has on purpose. People see R11 as just the first step… and a big one. OTOH, Apple’s pace of development on FCP X could best be described as glacial.
That’s why I think there is so much excitement on R11… everyone is hoping it lights a fire under Apple’s a**.

[Shawn Miller] “I’m not so sure that’s entirely correct, Oliver. I agree that this camera is aimed at filmmakers, but it seems like more of a budget “cinema camera” that isn’t aimed at DSLR shooters. I see it as an owner/operator/inexpensive rental camera. I think there’s a lot of pent up demand for sub 10k cameras that; have better than DSLR ergonomics, shoot lightly compressed CODECS, have greater than 8bit color depth and have professional i/o options (HD-SDI, phantom powered XLR, TC, etc). Higher dynamic range also seems to be higher on the list for budget digital cinema shooters than it used to be. I think the CION meets all of these requirements, as does the Ursa… if it ever ships. :-)”
A version of the Cion with an EF mount would change things quite a bit… just saying…

[Jeremy Garchow] “Still, though, even with these closed, the beach ball comes out at halftime.”
This isn’t a criticism, but I have a brand new Mac Pro that still beach balls once in awhile, and on average unexpectedly quits once during a long day. This is a new 8-core, Dual D700’s, 64GB or ram and a 1TB SSD and it still does that, even with nothing else opened. It’s running a 12TB Promise Pegasus2 disk array, so it’s not like everything isn’t maxed out for performance.
New machine, virgin install of everything, all new render files. I don’t know how much more perfect I could make the environment? I think Apple has some more work to do (he said in his most compassionate voice)…

[Charlie Austin] “I tried it a few times. Personally it was more trouble than it was worth. Totally subjective. ;-)”
Worked perfectly here… for years. Everybody loved it. Hell will freeze over before we ever get anything like that in FCP X… too bad.

[Loren Risker] “You can publish any of the color effects from motion and get some great color tools and keyframing that way.”
We could also go back to film, scissors and tape, but that isn’t a proper solution either…

[Charlie Austin] ” I guess if I were being more clear, I’d note that my MCU was collecting dust long before FCP X was released. I used it with STP and Logic occasionally, but never in an NLE.”
I used the hell out of mine with FCP 7…
