If the Apple option isn’t working, you might try Lock & Load… it’s fixed things that the built in options in FCP X couldn’t…

Thanks to everyone who responded. As it turns out I ended up taking a lot of your suggestions.
Noah is right, the solution is a burner on the nMP. Now I just need to find a USB 3 model that is recognized by the Mac OS without needing a third party program like Toast..
Marco and John were right about using Disk Utility to burn the disk image, which I did using the old machine with the burner.
Jeremy’s suggestion probably works, but by then I had tried the Disk Utility trick.
In the end, it appears that if you need one disc, use Share to burn directly to the disc. If you need several, it seems like it’s faster to burn the disk image to the HD, and then use Disk Utility to burn repeated discs…
Thanks everyone…

I could be mistaken, but I think that only works with CD or DVD… not Blu-ray. I’ll have to try that though, to find out… thanks!

[Noah Kadner] “adding a burner to the new Mac Pro is what you want. FCPX has been capable of making BluRays for years.”
I haven’t had the occasion recently, but I knew it was in Share. I have read that some players don’t like the discs that Apple creates, but as I said I haven’t tried it directly from FCP X before. Clearly, having it show up directly in Share is a very elegant solution.
So now, the trick is to figure out who’s external Blu-ray player to buy? Anybody have one that they like? I see a couple of third party ones with panasonic internals…

Ahh… Zen Hour… I like that.
Given how often it’s been mentioned here, I thought it was obvious… but I guess you don’t think it’s a necessary thing?

December 5, 2014 at 5:29 pm in reply to: Need advice on HDD configuration (a.k.a RAID 5: The Debate)I had an Apple RAID card at one point. It was an elegant solution, if not a bit finicky at times. But it never gave me the speed of and external RAID.
As for “is it fast enough”, that’s pretty subjective question… and I suspect that if you ask three people, you’ll get four opinions. For myself, speed has many advantages, in terms of saving me time and saving my clients money. It also lets me experiment more. So for me, whether you ever do 4K or not, speed is always good. That’s why I still use an external TB2 array even now on a screaming new MacPro with the largest SSD.

Nice job Noah.
I admit that one part did make me chuckle though… your section on “ER” where you suggest that we should explain why we need something, after listing “Round-tripping to Motion” as an example. I would have thought the Round-tripping to Motion would be such an obvious thing that it wouldn’t need to be explained… but then maybe I’m the only one that feels that way.
Good to see you back, Noah…
